Weapon Specialization

In reference to the chameleon PrC in Races of Destiny, at what level, if any would a chameleon using the warrior focus qualify for weapon specialization? It gives caster level for the cleric and wizard focus' but no quasi-level for any other class. Could you use an arcane wand whild emulating the wizard? How about cast a spell from an arcane scroll?

As long as he has 4 levels of Fighter he qualifies. I don't think even Chameleon lets you get around that.

AFAIK, the only way to get it is four levels of Fighter, or receiving it as a bonus feat without prereqs (Favored Soul, some divine PrCs). Presumably, as talented as the Chamelon may be, his skill in a weapon is still a superficial imitation.

Well Combat Focus (which is what I think you are referring to) gives specific benefits. None of which are equivalent levels in the fighter class.

You gain proficiency in all martial weapons and a +2 competency bonus on attack, damage and fort saves (which increases to +4 at 5th level). Nothing about levels in a class or meeting prerequisites for feats.

Well in order to cast a spell from a wand it only has to be on your spell list.

The arcane focus lets you cast any arcane spell - so essentially all arcane spells are on your list.

As far as casting spells from arcane scrolls - as long as you meet the prerequisites you should be fine. It does specify that Int is your casting ability score that matters. So just follow the normal rules for casting spells from a scroll.

All of which means you can cast a small number of arcane spells but not enough to make you seem as compentent as a truly powerful wizard might be.

Right! That's why you've built up that +50 Bluff bonus.... :)

Maybe. But I'd offer a true arcane spellcaster (of equal or greater level) a bonus equal to their spellcraft/Knowledge arcana ranks to such checks.

Interestingly enough, since combat focus grants +2 to damage, it effectively encompasses Weapon Specialization (and Greater Weapon Specialization, later) for all weapons.
