Weapons Locker, d20 Future, then what?

The general consensus on the Wizards board was that d20 Future needed at least 3 or 4 'mini-settings', just like the Modern core book.

1) Near-future SciFi
2) Far-future Hard Scifi (ie. real science, like Traveller)
3) Far-future space opera (ie. Star Trek or Star Wars)
and optionally
4) Space Fantasy (ie. Dragonstar)

I think that you are looking at this a bit differently than the designers of d20 Future. You are looking at various classifications of a the broad category of SF -- the distinctions between which are subtle at best. I think that this supplement will probably be a toolbox to allow players to experience a wide variety of subgenres.

From the product blurb in the WotC online catalogue:

"Also included is extensive discussion of different types of futuristic science, including genetic engineering, nanotechnology, xenobiology, and even a section on mutations."

So you've got the tools to mix and match for cyberpunk (or Darth Vader, if used in moderation), post-apocalyptic, and all of the other genres you mention. I would expect that for the sake of space and for the sake of not needing a thesis to distinguish the two, Space Opera and Space Fantasy would be concacted. Post-Apoc will serve the Near Future niche and nanotechnology will be used as an excuse to turn anything into Hard SF.

I'm just shooting in the dark though.

Cheers

Hurrah! Now there is truly *no* need for S&S's dreadful new Gamma World. Thank you, WotC!

George Lucas produced these movies in the same "feel" of watching the 1940's and 1950's matinee movie serials, like "Flash Gordon" .

Were those old movies as dreadful as Attack of the Clones?
