The "Mr. Ed" book is from a 1960's American sit-com about a talking horse (no, I'm not making that up). The theme song went something like this:

A horse is a horse, of course, of course
And no one can talk to a horse, of course
That is, of course, unless the horse
is the famous Mr. Ed!

Go right to the source and ask the horse
He'll give you the answer that you'll endorse
He's always on a steady course
Talk to Mr. Ed

I've never read it, I just saw the title in Locus. From what I just read on a fan site of the author, it's supposed to be a humorous thriller. Sounds pretty good, I might try to keep my eye out for it, but it's a UK book, so...
