Weird things that attract players

I'm talking about spiked chains, hobgoblins, toads and stuff. All the stuff that have cool rules that attract the players attentions but really, who would actually choose these things otherwise?

You could publish some real cool rules for coat racks and lo, the party tanks are duel wielding them monkey gripped... :p

Okay, does it matter? Should we care? Do we want MORE.

I'd like a hobgoblin or a spiked chain (Well, not the mechanics for it; I'd prefer a medium weapon that does a d6 or d8 of bludgeon, can be used with tripping or disarming).

Don't care for toads...

Dire weasels. Players love dire weasels. In the first DnD session I ever played, one of the players (who I hadn't met) was bugging the DM to let her play a cleric weilding a spiked chain and with a dire weasel animal companion. This player is now my girlfriend.
Oh yes, and scythes. Not the best weapons, but so very stylish.

Demiurge out.

You ever become a community supporter, and by god I'm making your custom title "monkey gripped coat rack"! Welcome to the boards. :D

If I become asupporter can I be the Vorpal Elephant's-Foot Umbrella Stand?

Oh...and welcome to the boards FTS

Alchemist Fire and Acid Flasks are big on my lists. Players will literally ignore +5 Greatswords of Vorpal Nifty Keeness and Archwizard's Staff of Continent Destruction, either in use or in treasure, for alchemists fire and acid.

I don't understand it, because in most case alchemist's weapons are grossly underpowered and overpriced as compared to regular methods of attack.

Well just another way to drive them crazy.

I can see it now:
The armies of the Abyss have gathered to assault the mortal world. The balors are inspecting their troops as the massive portal slowly opens. But something is astray. A silhouette is seen in the gate. The figure charges towards the demons, hatred and rage gleaming in his fevered eyes. As he strikes, his thunderous battle-cry blasts the eardrums and resonates through the minds of the demons fortunate enough to survive the one man army: " NO WIRE HANGERS!"

Demiurge out.
