Weird things that attract players

Yeah, scythes are good. One fighter in the party I DM never even touched a shield until 10th level. The mage has an otter as a familiar. And I've seen players arguing over a cloak with no magical properties just because it looked pretty. Cool stuff ain't just about the mechanics.

One of my friends and fellow players loves Bolos.

"Ranged touch attack that can trip??? WEEEEE!!!"
'See! I told Wizardru people love me! Oh wait.. your talking about a weapon." Bolo brandybuck slinks off into the woods never to show his face again.

Welcome to the boards!

I'll vouch for the dire weasels. I once had a player develop a very sophisticated weasel slinging system so he could launch them at his enemies.

Some players really love natural weapons. Nothing they like than figuring out some way to get massive claws or wrist spurs.

Me I think it's weird that swords are so popular. Spears and maces are the way to go.

Poisons. Unless you use some of the third party rules they are close to useless.

Rules for unusual mounts.

How many different methods for getting your character to fly are there?

You could publish some real cool rules for coat racks and lo, the party tanks are duel wielding them monkey gripped... :p

Lets see now... medium weapon, d8 20/x2 bludgeoning, +4 to disarm and trip because of the protruding bits, grants +1 to AC because those bits get in the way of opponent's sword, add weapon's enhancement bonus to that AC bonus. On a natural 20 you snag your opponent's armor and hang it on the rack.

No, no, no. You're missing it entirely.

Players love fiendish dire weasels.

Edit: Or is that kobolds riding fiendish dire weasels?

Or perhaps kobolds dual-wielding monkey-gripped vorpal coat racks, riding awakened fiendish dire weasels. Or is that just for the Kobold Weasel Rider PrC?
