Weretiger ECL 1 ?!?!?

Realistically, in 3E, how long in a character's life do you think it takes to get up to level 13?

I mean, in just one or two battles, which could take place in a single afternoon for a character, it's easy enough to get from L1 to L2.

A hearty adventurer that experiences combat and other challenges on a fairly constant basis could get up that high in a very short time. While it may take years in real-life play time... for the PC in the campaign world, we're talkin' what... a year?

For example, the events of Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil are meant to take a character from level 4 to level 14. Playing once a week, that campaign takes about a year to play in RL... give or take. However, the in-game events can occur over the course of just a few months. If you tag on the time it took to get from level 1-4, it's still not that much.

So, I don't think that's an unrealistic metabolic rate for a weretiger.

There is also a basic D&D supplement on PC lycanthropes you might want to check out Called Howls or something like that that had, I believe, 20 class levels for each type of lycanthrope, PC weretigers start out as cubs at low levels without the full weretiger powers until mid levels. I do not know if it is available as an ESD download from WotC yet.

Also for the poster who thought werewolves got the shaft, check out the Ravenloft Denizens of Darkness for their werewolves, I think they have a little more bite.

As far as ECL of the straight template, They do not get +6HD but the better of their animal or class hit points so this is no benefit at higher levels.

Also from the srd description, only at the first involuntary change does it say they lose their memory and identity.

In my ravenloft campaign 3 of the PCs have recently become infected by weretigers, it is causing many problems but I will not add any ECL penalties to the existing characters (just like I didn't to the character who was turned into a wight or the PC whose dark powers checks are turning him into a feral fey vampire).

I have a question about how to handle ECL after character creation. Here is the scene:

I play a 11th level rogue in our campaign. We are playing in a city game were he has many friends that are wererats in the sewers. If he has one infect him with Lycanthropy, How would most people handle this? Here is our currently thoughts on the matter. Since, he cannot learn Control shape skill until he actually can change shapes he cannot apply any points towards it before he levels. And once he levels Wererat should count as a +3 ECL making his required experience for next level 105,000 exp. At that point he would be a 12th level rogue.

ECL is not for existing characters.

In this case, I'd make it extremely unpleasent for him to be a wererat, so that he would be desperate for a cure.

Technically, the way we were planning on doing it. A 12th level cleric with a remove curse spell can pretty much wipe out over 30,000 experience with a wave of a hand.
