Western anime, cartoon shows and others

Does anyone know if there any anime or cartoon shows with a Wild West theme beside the space-western gimmick? Tv Shows and movies is a given but looking for animated style though.

I can't think of much...

Wild ARMS has an anime, but that one is not very good and doesn't stick to the Wild West setting consistently.

Trigun is pretty good (at least the manga is, I have never seen much of the anime myself), but that is Space Western, so it isn't what you are looking for.

Cowboy Bebop is uses some Western tropes and images, but is very, very different and again, set in space. The same could be said for Outlaw Star.

In terms of anime, a pure Western is about as rare as it comes. I can't think of anything. The problem with anime Wild West shows is that, in Japan, Samurai stories and films fill the exact same cultural niche as Wild West stories and films fill in the US (hence, the way Japanese Samurai films were adapted as Wild West films in the US and vice versa).

The only 'Western' themed cartoons I can think of are the old Lone ranger cartoons and MAYBE various animated Zorro incarnations (Some people consider him in the Western theme, others dont).

Really stretching things, there was MOO Mesa, but that's sort of a TMNT+Western cross. Cowboy is taken a bit literally here.

I want to say Dagger of Kamui has a wild west part in it, but my memory is foggy.

You are correct, though since I have not seen it in so very a long time I can not state how long that section was. It was more near the end so that means you would have to stay awake to get there... great movie, just long as hell...

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a true pure Wild West anime series. I really dont know of any. Plenty of space westerns though.

There was The Legend Of Calamity Jane series from the late 90s (anyone else remember it?). It was pretty cool (and Batman: TAS inspired), but it didn't last too long.

And don't forget the Jonah Hex episode of Batman.

Oh, I loved The Wild West C.O.W.boys of Moo Mesa! And Bravestarr, too!

Burst Angel has some 'Western' elements to it. Mostly in costumes and when they go to Osaka. Osaka is depicted almost literally as 'The Old West'. But, the series is near future, with mechs, aliens, etc. It's a good show, but not a 'Western'.

One of the above posters already nailed it, but the Samurai stuff is anime's 'Old West' stuff. If you're actually looking for Cowboys and Indians in anime.....I cannot think of one off the top of my head.
