D&D 5E What’s So Great About Medieval Europe?

I find it ironic the image used for the Fighter on D&D beyond is a dark skinned man with an African style shield, a spear, a longsword wearing scale mail.

Is this homebrew Fighting Style good?

Shield Guard
While you are not wearing any armor, your Armor Class equals 14 + your Dexterity modifier. You wield a shield with a length at least half your height to gain this benefit.

What's the point of specifying the shield length? That's not even a "thing" in D&D.

Add a strength and dex mimum (the strength doesnt effect the ac) and some sort of partial detriment to attacks from behind while already in melee from the front and id accept it. Material of sheild can bump up the ac more if above baseline material and give additional defensive maneuvers once or twice during class progression and yeah. I think it could be good.

But i have no idea why someone wouldnt just also wear armor. Mechanically you can make this work in the game but im not sure it can make logical sense from a realism standpoint. Thays probably not the point though.

No metal.

D&D AC is Medieval/Renaissance European based.

Attempting to make a fighter based on other cultures results in the AC being garbage or sacificing your melee attacking ability score.

I think hes suggesting it become a thing. Its also historically a pretty major detail. Tower shields changed war in a signifficant way. He might be refering to the real world advamtage that syatyed making waves in rome initially. But i dont know about the unarmored part. That's a bit odd.

I mean, you can't back up your point, so it's not unreasonable to believe there is none besides what just you say.
Wolf's confusion is caused by the fact that hes saying the criticisms of his own school of thought that was referenced can be looked up and you are saying you are just going to believe there arent any.

Edit:

Wait. Sorry. I misread two words and it changed a lot. Carry on. Never mind me.
