D&D General What’s The Big Deal About Psionics?

I suspect hardcore psionics fans are the biggest barrier for WOTC making psionics. They have super specific and often contradictory demands for what psionics should be, and tend to want unrealistic things like making a full parallel magic system.
5e needs more parallel magic systems. Bring back psionics, incarnum, martial adepts, and binders, all using different systems that take elements of what came before but update them and make them work.

I don't believe this. This just sounds like putting the blame on passionate fans and making assumptions that just conveniently work for your point. I personally think its people who are super anti-new systems that keeps Psionics out of D&D so far; people like you who downvote every idea that isn't spells.

Note I've seen way more cooperation between Psionics fans online here, on reddit, and on facebook then between people who do and don't want it.

Even going through this thread, a lot of us are willing to sit down and make compromises on the system. But people who just want it to be spells shut everything down. Somehow, the people working together and willing to compromise are the problem WotC faces and not the strong, vocal group that tells us to get over it and that we can't have new things isn't? Interesting.

And why this compromise solution cannot include them having spells? They don’t need to have normal slot progression chart, they could cast their spells via points or some other system. That’s a compromise.

Because that's not a compromise. That's giving us nothing that we want and then giving us spell points which we already have. You're compromise is for us to basically play the Sorcerer. We don't want to play the Sorcerer. We want to play a Psion. Or Mystic. Or Psychic, etc.
