D&D General What’s The Big Deal About Psionics?

That's also probably true. Either way, it goes to show that I don't think anyone's expectations will be fully met. There will be psionics, but the form it takes probably won't be the one the fans want. But we'll see, I'm happy to be completely wrong.
Does 5e in general meet everyone's expectations? Had they simply come up with a set of psionic rules and released them, we wouldn't have this problem. There's plenty of precedent even in 5e for game elements that don't appear in UA first. The fact that WotC insisted on heavy player buy-in to the mechanics before publishing anything is the problem here. And now its too late. If you don't like what they're offering, you'll have to go outside officialdom. It's nice out here. You should try it.

I don't think the 5s really disagreeing as much as there is no full 5e concept to coalesce around and the 5s are too busy arguing with 1s and 0s.
As a firm "2" - don't care, I've been reading these threads from a more disinterested position, and I have seen the hardcore psionics fan arguing about what they want, and what they really really don't want, as well as seen a wide range of "full concepts" rejected outright.

As a 4ish guy myself, it's really the 3s, 4s, 5s arguing right now.

I think you, as a 2, are seeing them all as 5s.

But we've got psionics already! And I seem to like the only one that actually likes them as they are.

Ultimately, I want an elegant psionics system not only because I really like the idea of psionics as a concept, but because I'm bored of spells all the time. I want something a little different. I want a little extra spice. You don't have to like it. Ban it at your table. There are people who ban artificer too for flavor reasons from their tables. I know at least 4 tables that only use non-spellcasting classes and subclasses and run games in literal ancient Rome.

So, I want a Psychic or Psion or Mystic that has unique psionics mechanics that let me explore the themes in a new mechanical way. I don't really care to entertain the people who don't want that, because it'll be in a non-core book and you don't need to allow it at your table even if it is in a core book. That simple!
How invested are you on it being official? Your chances of getting it increment if you want to go to third party. Or just use the last mystic UA?

I suspect hardcore psionics fans are the biggest barrier for WOTC making psionics. They have super specific and often contradictory demands for what psionics should be, and tend to want unrealistic things like making a full parallel magic system.
I have to ask: is anything beyond what WotC has produced "unrealistic" to you?
