What 10th-level monsters need converting?

the Jester

Legend
Continuing my monster project, what monsters from earlier editions of d&d would make good 10th-level monsters?

Here's my list so far:

10th Level Monsters On the List

Elemental, invisible stalker
Greenvise
Morkoth
Neogi? - still debating 10th-12th level start; compare to umber hulks @ 12th level elite
Spawn of Juiblex
Spider, Phase
Sundew, Giant
Xorn

Higher Level Monsters On the List

Aurumvorax [12th level]
Crimson Death [16th level or thereabouts?]
Giant, Cloud
Giant, Frost
Lurker Above [15th level?]
Trapper [18th level?]
Vampiric mist [11th level or thereabouts?]
Wheep [11th level]

Hazards to be Converted

Mantrap
Tri-Flower Frond

I say start the neogi here. Neogi sniper and neogi spawn swarm at 10th level, with neogi mindbenders, thrallkeepers, and great old masters at higher levels.

Have you any plans for the formians or rilmani?

How about the, "Wheep" from Libris Mortis (challenge rating 11)? It has poisonous claws/bite, and a fear-effect (basically an aura) that scares creatures that here it sobbing.

Good idea. I was thinking about starting them at 12th (to be on par with umber hulks)... but maybe some should be weaker. Then again, umber hulks are elites...

Not yet. I've been mulling over whether I want to mess with them, given the cosmological changes that have taken place. However, in my campaign, they will almost certainly appear at some point as "refugees" from the old cosmology.

Dunno, time will tell what happens with these guys.

Ooh, nice one! If it was CR 11, it prolly belongs at least at level 11; I'll put it there.

Ok, I found my list, got a couple of stuff listed for level 10.

There's the gorynych from Monstrous Compendium Annual 1, originally appered in Dragon. From MCA 2, there's the marl and the squealer, I think squealer might have been a 1e monster and the marl is FR I think.

Last on the list is the brain collector, I have a couple of different 2e sources for that, but I think it was also in the ELH. Maybe that gets bumped up a few higher levels. I thought it was already listed somewhere in the project, but I didn't see it anywhere.

I totally missed your post.

I seem to recall liking the gorynych- I'll have to dig out my MCA1 and look at it.

I don't have MCA2 and I've never even heard of the marl before. The squealer is a 1e monster from the MM2; I'll dig that out and look at it. I don't know that I ever used one- I seem to recall them having 3 arms or something, from the picture? I dunno- I'll have to look.

The brain collector is ABSOLUTELY a "must-do"! That will probably have several versions- maybe TWENTY!!! (No, probably not, but I love that monster!)
