What 3e (& 3.5e) terms are you sick of?

DM. Players. Class. Multi-class. Dragons. Dungeons. Level. Halfling. Kender. Gnome. Gary Gygax. Jack Chick. Monte Cook. Hasbro.

BAH! Man, these terms bug the beejeezus out of me!

Get rid of them all I say!

Oh and 1 more from me...

The "belt of Giants Strength" in the DMG   what a load of crap that is...

It's a belt of BULLS STRENGTH, (giants have nothing to do with it.)

-Elf Worshippers. Gods, it bugs me when someone acts like elves are perfect in every way, while humans are unpredictable and destructive, dwarves are greedy recluses, etc. One of the only bad things to come from the LotR movies is that it's spawned a great many elf worshippers.

-Elf Haters. What REALLY bugs me is when these scenarios about advancing Worlds to modern times and people want to turn elves into Eco-Terrorists. God I HATE that. Elves aren't perfect, and they too can be greedy and destructive. The only think (IMO) that Elves have over humans (Although not with the PHB drawings of Elves) is coolness. But what can I say?

I like Pointy Ears and I cannot lie,
You other brothers can't deny
When a girl walks in with a pointy-eared face
and a longsword at her waist
you get Sprung (attacked)
(can't remember the rest).
;)

-People who don't understand alignment. Lawful != law-abiding, and chaotic != anarchist.

Chaos doesn't mean anarchy. You can have anarchy without having chaos. Learn the word please.

BUFFS

GOD DAMN I HATE THIS TERM.

All you Everquest people who started using this term should be shot in the head. I don't know WHY it annoys me, but it does. It started in Everquest, and now just about EVERY powerup of ANY kind in either computer games and even D&D NOW FOR CRYING OUT LOUD is being called a "Buff".

Anyone who calls "Bull's Strength" and stuff like that "Buffs" should be shot. Keep it on the PC, and more specifically, keep it in FREAKING EVERQUEST.

Thank god my players don't use it, but it seems that everyone else on the forums is using it.

I've been mudding for 9+ years (way longer then everquest has been around for) and have always seen the term buffs used when talking about spellups and the like.

Haha, my new campeign takes place after such an occurance (though it was geographic expansion instead of modernization that provoke the tree-huggers), but thankfully they were all killed... or were they?

Mwu-ha-ha..*cough cough*

Yeah, and where are all those horses in my car?! It should be called car power- horses have nothing to do with it.

*hoping you are joking*

Sunder, applied to non melee-weapon / shields. It's strike an object except for thoes two cases.

Example: "Just sunder his bow and bla bla bla..." Again, you don't sunder somehting that's not normaly part of a melee used to parry or threaten your opponent directly. You strike it.

(this annoys me more because it makes people refer to the wong rules than because of the term itself, which I'm fine with)

Not to be condescending or anything, but I think you misunderstood the previous poster. What he wrote didn't mean "chaos equals anarchist," it meant "chaos does not equal anarchist". != means "not equal to," kind of an obscure fact in non-programming circles.

That is an opinion. Even though it is valid as an opinion, it doesnt solve the problem of elf lovers or elf haters (or the eco terrorist problem outside of your campaign).

On to topic:
1) All the adjectives that really are for describing food; juicy, crunchy etc.
2) Good drow PCs; it seems like every gaming group and their mother has a converted drow as a part of it. It's a bit too much of the "to cool the be bad guys"- concept for my liking.
3) Shafted classes; If you dont like them, a) dont play them, b) write to WotC about the problem and hope they release some patch you are satisfied with, c) redesign it to fit your campaign. All of the above alternatives are bound to be more effective then whining on message boards.
4) Elf lovers/ -haters; see reasons for that in previous posts.
