What a crop circle!

why is it that in all the discussions of crop circles you see, noone is ever worried about the poor farmers who had their crops destroyed? :p

Okay, I give in... what on earth is a plasma ball, and where can I buy one?

In this case...The earth stores a vast amount of energy, it is believed that this energy is being released from the ground in certain places as plasma. This release of plasma energy is said to cause lights in the sky and may be possible for crop circles.

It is a theory that has no proof behind it, there is no data that has been put forth on it.

Recently, my friends and I figured out what crop circles are.

First, find a globe.

Second, look at any spot on that globe. Assuming it's a normal globe, you'll see listings of location names. "Europe," "Asia," "United States," "Australia," and so on. Perhaps there are even entries for individual towns, counties, or states.

Third, imagine that instead of our normal letters, your language involved a lot of circular letters, with lines and stuff that go between different circles. Y'know, your letters look like crop circles.

Fourth, pretend you really want a nice, accurate globe of planet earth, with all the important spots labeled, and that you don't want to get any details wrong.

Fifth, you have huge, orbital forcefield beams that can bend crops into the shapes of letters.

So, that's the answer. Crop circles are just giant efforts to label planet earth, for ease of reference by aliens.

So what you're saying is that by any standards of science the "theory" you present is no theory at all, just someone's wild-assed guess. You may as well have told us Elvis is doing it. Or Miss Cleo.

No proof.

No data put forward.

No legitimacy.

Naturally occuring plasma balls / ball lightning are a pretty well-known phenomenon (we've even replicated them), but we understand less about them than we do lightning and tornadoes.

'How can we replicate it without understanding it?' you may ask...

Well, the replication is done using technological methods - we do not understand how tornadoes or ball lightning actually form in nature. We only have a basic understanding of how lightning occurs in nature.

Beyond this, large-scale effects like natural lightning and ball-lightning do some incredibly weird things... We have no idea why or how. Ball lightning is
1: Rare
2: Hard to replicate period
3: not known how it is made in nature
4: and may very well do something messed up like lightning does

I would not throw out the possibility of it being involved in various phenomenon.

You are aware, of course, that "plasma" refers to a gas at very high temperatures? Generally speaking, when high-temperature gas is released from the earth, it results in an EXPLOSION, not pretty lights in the sky or pictures of flowers in a cornfield.

Mount Saint Helens was the most recent release of this type in the continental US. A large amount of carbon dioxide gas that had been dissolved in the molten rock in the volcano suddenly came out of solution, blasting ash across the countryside.

There is suppose to be a cash reward (big bucks) for any one that recreate them, no one has been able to collect. :) Also fields have been monitored and have shown no activity yet the cicles get formed.

Citation, please, on the cash reward. I know of several people who would be able to create a crop circle for money. Heck, if the reward is good enough I'll do it.

As for monitoring fields, the people who do this are sneaky. A farmer sitting on his back porch isn't going to be able to see it happen.
