My take on the Star Wars characters.
Darth Vader: Chaotic Evil. He actively disdains any kinds of rules and does not feel they apply to him or those he respects. He makes emotional decisions. He believes in rule through strength, particularly if he can make himself the strongest. He uses authority to bind others to his whims, rather than a recognized power structure. The right hand of the Emperor, yet a menace to the entire Imperial bueaucracy and military command structure, an adherant of a mystical philosophy devoted to the destruction of its other practitioners, he is Chaotic and Evil. His semblance of a human demon hides the anger and feelings of persecution of an audacious young boy seeking to become master of life and death itself. "I'm altering the deal. Pray I do not alter it any further."
Emperor Palpatine: Neutral Evil. Everything he does is either about power, or about enjoying the privileges afforded to those in power. Torture is his delight, as he views softer pleasures as invitations to weakness. Nonetheless, a cultured and philosophical man, he seeks a sort of balance to his existence, embracing his passions but not succumbing to them. "Ultimate power!"
Moff Tarkin: Lawful Evil. Just following orders. If the New Order happens to require billions of deaths to cement its authority and lead to his own ascendence in the power structure, so be it. He would probably be Emperor himself gladly if he could, but he understands his subordinate role and would not deliver the Empire into anarchy in a reckless quest for power. "Fear will keep them in line. Fear of this battle station."
Jabba the Hutt: Lawful Evil. Despicable and lacking in character, yet possessed of a certain consistency and honesty in line with his interests as a businessman. "Han, I can't make exceptions. What if everyone who smuggled for me dropped their cargo at the first sign of an Imperial starship? It's not good business."
Jango Fett: Neutral Evil. "I'm just a simple man trying to make my way in the Galaxy."
Boba the Fett: Neutral Evil. "What if he doesn't make it? He's worth a lot to me."
Princess Leia: Lawful Neutral. Adamantly opposed to evil, yet herself pragmatic, Leia is a good and loyal friend but anashamedly partisan. It is the principles of democracy and social order she serves, principles trampled by the tyranny of the Empire. "Dantooine... They're on Dantooine."
Yoda: Lawful Good. Almost preternaturally compassionate, yet hard-nosed. His sense of duty not only binds him to difficult positions, but impels him to thrust others into dangerous situations as well. "My own counsel will I keep who is to be trained."
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Neutral Good. "Many of the truths we cling to depend on our point of view."
Chewbacca: Neutral Good. Despite a brutal streak, Chewbacca is above all a defender of the underdog and a creature of loyalty and honor. In many ways, he is Han's conscience, while Han serves as his emotional counterbalance.
Luke Skywalker: Chaotic Good. Deciding to follow his heart and instincts to save his friends and abandon his train pretty much defined his character. He would come to face harsh consequences for this decision. Nonetheless, a wiser Luke later confronts Vader and the Emperor, and in the face of all reason and counsel, seeks out the good in his father and trusts in it, even as he faces death.
Han Solo: Chaotic Neutral. While his sympathies lie with Good, Han is openly pragmatic and more than a little cynical. The only thing he really trusts is living and letting others live, although personal loyalty can draw him into situations more complicated than he prefers to deal with. "I take orders from only one person... me!"
Lando Calrissian: Neutral Good. While our introduction to him is as a "scoundrel" and an Imperial collaborator, it soon becomes clear that he is not only a good businessman, but someone with his employees' interests at heart. Compassionate and heroic, he combines a free spirit with a stripe of principle. While Han and Leia take his betrayal personally, Lando understands the hard reality of living under the shadow of evil. "There's still a chance to save Han!"
