What are good spells for a Sorc to "chain"?

I'm, currently playing a half-orc sorceror in a FR campaign. He's got a pretty poor charisma (14 at level 1), but i'm looking to keep him as a pure sorceror and to make him effective through good use of spells and effective combinations.

One aspect that i'm floundering on a little is finding good spells for him to 'chain' with the 'chain spell' feat. Has anyone else found a decent sorceror build that is focused around the 'chain spell' feat, or if not focused at least makes good use of it?

I dont have the rules in front of me, but I think the pre-reqs for a spell to me chained are:

*Spell must have a range of greater than 'touch'
*Spell must affect a single target

I've found surprisingly few low and mid level spells from the core books that fall within these bounds and would actually be useful to a sorceror.

For a half-orc, that's good. For a sorcerer (and pure sorcerer to boot), this is awful :p

I haven't really looked that much into Chain Spell and suitable spells, so I can't help you with that.

i dont think that there are many spells that work with chain.. plus, with your charisma being as low as it is, reducing saves by a further 4 points is likely to not be very useful.

While this likely isnt what you are looking for I'd suggest sticking to as many non-save spells as possible and focus your efforts in other areas.

Battlefield control is likely your best bet. Things like walls and haste and other such no save but effective spells.

Luck with the chain spell thing though ;)

Edit: arent there racial levels for halforc somewhere? You are really fighting an uphill battle here, so any little bit will help.

At 1st level, Grease, Charm Person and Cause Fear are all Chainable to fun effect.

At 2nd you can go with Hideous Laughter and Command Undead.

For 3rd a Chained Targeted Dispel Magic can be very effective in the right circumstances.

5th level chainable spells include Dominate Person...

About the nastiest spell to chain is Fleshshiver from the Player's Guide to Faerûn, but it's 5th level and thus 8th if chained. ;)

In general, Chain Spell is not really great, I think.

nice catches ;) I guess the best here would be grease and a targetted dispel. Although targetted dispel as a level 7 spell with a +10 cap might not be terribly handy :( Probably depends on how many potions your opponents drink.

Not sure what your Charisma is now, but with a 14, you are only going to be chaining 1st level spells.....

Well, hes now fifth level, and took a charisma increase and 4th, and will also do so at 8th, 12th, 16th and 20th. So i'm not worried about his maximum spell level.

Thats good advice, which I am intending to follow. However, i'm also hoping to have a decent enough range of spells so that I can make up for the low charisma by targetting my opponents weaker saves. If i'm fighting a barbarian, then i'll use will save spells, if i'm targetting a mage, i'll use fort save spells etc.

I'm also going for spells that have no saves, ranged touch-attack spells. With a 15 dex, and cats grace, those touch attacks arent too hard. I'm not sure if officially you can "chain" rays and other touch-attack spells though. Anyone know?

Does Grease count? The "chain spell" feat states that it can be applied to "Any spell that specifies a single target and has a range greater than touch".

Charm Person I already have thanks, and Cause Fear i'm avoiding because of the 6hd limit on it. I'll check out Hideous Laughter and Command Undead, they could well be worthy additions.

As for Chained Targeted Dispel Magic, fantastic idea! :) Thats going to be his first 3rd level spell.

Greater Magic Weapon at level 3. Buff the whole group with one spell.

There goes his second 3rd level spell, good catch there too, thanks.

Maybe the ability boost spells? Such as Bull's Strength and Cat's Grace?

I did want to pick those, but they have a range of touch, and as such they dont meet the criteria. Hmmm, hold on a moment, isnt there a feat that allows you to deliver touch spells at range? Would that feat combined with "chain spell" suddenly open up a whole new range of spells to be chained? Anyone know?

Yeah, its a tall order, but I like a challenge and to play a character thats a little different. Thanks for the ideas everyone, keep them coming! :)
