What are some 'interesting' race/class combos?

I'm sorry, you're right. The DB heritage thing says your healing surge value is equal to 1/4 HP + Con mod.

Not as potent as I thought.

You are correct. Perhaps Rechan was referring to the HP gained per healing surge, for Dragonborn they add their Con modifier (other races it's just the flat amount)

Edit: Rechan beat me to it while I typed :P

He's confused. Dragonborn benefits from high con, but it's because the modifier is added to their healing surge value.

Another great aspect of Dragonborn Fighters is the breath weapon.

As a minor action, breath and mark all foes in a 3x3 square? Fantabulous.

Dragonborn Star Warlock (MC Paladin)

Tiefling Paladin (mostly for the unusual flavor)

Half-Elf Rogue (1/encounter eyebite + an action point is great!)

Dwarf Staff or Orb Wizard/Infernal Warlock

Elf Longspear Fighter

Halfling Rapier Paladin (MC Fighter for light blade powers)

Tieflings make excellent paladins. Good racial power for a defender, and CHA bonus. That's an odd one for you, I guess. Halfling paladin is also good, with a scimitar and shield with cha bonus, tho not as odd as a tiefling from a theme standpoint.

Dwarf isn't a bad two weapon ranger. Dual axes and the feat. The new warforged write up is a good str cleric, with a good racial paragon path for clerics too.

The first character I'm going to play, (as opposed to DM), is an Eladrin warlord/wizard multiclass headed for the wizard of the spiral tower paragon path. The level 20 daily in particular is crazy good. A weapon that's +4 to hit against will? That's int+prof+magic weapon+4 to hit will.

Doppelgangers seem to be a race everyone's overlooking. Maybe because their racial power is not combat related. But they'd make great liars, what with a racial Charisma boost, a racial bonus to Bluff and natural disguise abilities.

In one game I'm likely to make myself either a Dopplegangers Wizard (+2 Cha means easy Spell focus later on) or Doppelganger Paladin, who'd take Skill training in Bluff and be a 4th ed Diplomancer (well, not as bad as a 3rd ed half elf bard, but still good at convincing people of stuff). Either one is likely to multiclass into Rogue to pick up the "Reroll any Bluff check you don't like" Utility power. Of course, a Doppelganger rogue could do that without MCing.

Warforged Warlocks are pretty good, too. Pick one of the pacts that focuses just on Con, and you can have a hands free implement (if using the Dragon magazine version). Which leaves your hands free to multiclass into something Fightery to take advantage of your Str bonus.

I've been enjoying a Dragonborn Rogue (Artful Dodger). Not only does the Cha bump help things, but the Blinding Barrage/Dragon Breath combo works well in the low levels.

Eldrin make great sword and board fighters. Teleporting past the little guys to lock down your big bad boss is really great. And the extra damage from the Eldrin solder feat is nice as well. Oh and javelins as the range weapon of choice.
