What are the classic adventure modules of 3E? (with a tally!)

Really? Cool! Someone should tell me about these things. :D

Which is your friendly neighborhood gaming store?

Wizard's Tower, Nashua. Lisa said you'll be there when they eventually run their Con.

Didn't I say this was a rumor? :)

3E Classics

Of the modules I've actually RUN in 3E, I'd have to say the Sunless Citadel was definitely enjoyed by my players as was the Burning Plague. The rest of the stuff I've been running is classics from Dungeon Magazine and the 1E module series (particularly GDQ).

Other modules that look awesome but I haven't run yet are the Rappan Athuk series & NeMoren's Vault.

And of course I'm a fan of the Orc and the Pie...

i would ask which d20 publishers are 'catching up' to Wotc. Perhaps in production quality, but in rules consistency? I have yet to see it...

I believe a majority of d20 companies have done a much better job of being both 3e rules compliant and SRD/OGL compliant. Just about every company has made errors in one spot or another, but experience in these matters helps a great deal. Several companies now have "rules gurus" that go over a manuscript before it goes to layout.

As far as rules consistency, I can point to numerous rules gaffes in Wizard's products.

As the author of Rainbow Mage I want to say thanks to the Col for such a high compliment and thanks again to the Ennies Judges. The nomination of this module was a complete surprise. It's release date happened to be the last day to be eligible for the contest, and it was back from the printer early enough to be sent out. We didn't expect such a recent release to be so well-treated.

I am somewhat biased, but I think modules from Necromancer Games, Fiery Dragon and Troll Lord's are all excellent. I have also been impressed by Dark Portal Games (specifically, Enigma of the Arcanexus). Another company I haven't really seen mentioned is Kenzer Co. I don't have a huge amount of their material, but at least one module I have is extremely well-done.

Okay, this was a series of random thoughts while a 3-year-old has been begging for juice.

I don't really know why this is classified as a "psionic" adventure. Is it billed that way on the cover? It's every bit as fun for a party with no psions.

I agree, but let me put it this way: I've praised Manual of the Planes 'til I'm blue in the face, and still people will dismiss it as being irrelevant to them because they don't play extraplanar adventures. Never mind that I (as well as who-knows-how-many others) have explained at length how it's usable for so much more. Same goes for Of Sound Mind, which is, indeed, billed on the cover as "A Psionic Fantasy Adventure." EDIT: ...and on the back, it's billed as "A Psionic Fantasy Adventure Sourcebook."

WotC products in the last year are nothing to write home about, IMO. Frex, they STILL managed to goof up Elminster's immunities in ELH.

I have found many of S&SS's, Necromancer Games, and Malhavoc this year to be absolutely immaculate.

<cough> Ahee... I'd be one of them folks.

So now I go out and buy it.

Nicely sold!

I wholeheartedly concur with the Col. on this one (I find I'm doing that alot lately, eh Jeff? Perhaps I should just shut my mouth, and let you answer for me!)

The MotP is one of, if not THE best 3E buy out there for a DM...it's much more useful than just for Planar adventuring....For those creating their own campaign worlds it has lot's of useful tools and ideas. Probably Jeff Grub's best work ever, IMO

I'd also like to put my thumbs up for Rainbow Mage and Tristor...

Clark from Necromancer sent me a copy of HotRM as soon as it was off the press due to a snafu (really not a big deal, but it's just the kind of guy he is) with a trivia constest I won on his ENworld chat. Excellent product..very neat module

And Tristor as well...It is an excellent GH module...and I mean a "true" GH module..not the lip service style of the Adventure Path series...It really utilizes many of the GH themes...

Oh wow..

Psion, what an example..an appendix stat block..wow...i'm referring to actual RULES here. No d20 work i've seen really comes close in terms of creating consistent, workable, BALANCED rules. Your bias against high-level gaming, which has been the major area of support from Wotc this year, seems to show itself yet again(ex: your irrational gripes with the ELH). Point to a MAJOR rules hickup from Wotc that is comparable to those you would find in any given d20 book, even the better ones...

In summary, 3rd parties tend to be big on ambition, which is easy, and short on implementation, where the true talent and hard, 'grunt' work comes into play...

Though, perhaps i'm framing it incorrectly..it might not be so much a bias against high levels as a more pernicious streak i see in the rhetoric on these boards from time to time: a bias against player-focused GAME info and dm fudge aids, the former of which Wotc supports, the latter not so much. It isn't what your players will see that matters to this type of dm, but rather the need to stroke their own imagination with redundant cliched and/or pretensious fluff text.

Just a rant, i could be wrong...

IMC he was killed by a goblin spear. The poor guy only had two hit points. :(

Meepo rules. I had a lot of fun playing him, and he went BIG ! Blasted by Calcryx's icey breath he turns into an icycle and gets reverently spunged up by his bretheren after having melted.
