What are the stats for Elminster like in 3E?

I wasn't that impressed with any of the NPCs in FR book. Their main stats all kinda sucked. It seems only the big E was smart enough to sue wishes to boost his int, and for a level 30+guy it still sucks. The symbol has what a 20 chr, ooh I'm shaking. I really think almost anyone on this board if making a character for themselves would build one who if they ever reached any where near the absurd levels of these npcs would absolutley pimp slap any of them.

If they're too powerful, people complain.

If they're not powerful enough, people complain.

This is a bit off-topic, but...

Actually, I prefer powerful---but reasonable---stats, to something so inflated that it becomes un-usable. If I need Elminster's stats, it's going to be because the PCs are in conflict with him, or being helped by him. If he's an enemy, then I expect from his stats the same thing I expect from any other enemy's stats---a foe who is a challenge to the PCs, but still defeatable. If he's an ally, then I expect his stats to outline an NPC who can be useful without being deus ex machina. Were Elminster to have overpowered stats (and even as is, I'm not sure this isn't the case,) there's no point in having the stats at all. Might as well just say he wins, and save a lot of pointless rolling.

This is also my beef with a lot of the Demon Lords. I think that fiends such as Graz'zt, Orcus, or Azmodeus could make wonderful final villians for the end of a campaign at 20th-level. But the way some people write their stats makes them undefeatable. What's the point of the stats in the first place, then? If they're undefeatable, no stats are necessary. If they aren't, then I want stats that I can use.
