Interesting benchmark, and probably an accurate one. rpg.net is clearly more suited to the eclectic gamer, and we're much, much more focused on D&D. I don't think we're hostile to other games, though.

probably why i was more active on Eric Noah's site and then here too.

Grumble, grumble.

I first came here when I first got interested in D+D. I have always been into video games and board games, but strongly disliked 2e the couple of times I had tried it. 3.0 rekindled my interest in D+D. Since then, I have gone through a number of spells where I play 3.x a lot, and some periods where I go months without playing RPGs. Recently, Final Fantasy V has been getting a lot more playtime than D+D. I keep coming back to ENWorld because I like the boards, the people, and the discussions.

If I didn't play D&D (or d20 or at least any RPGs) I wouldn't come to enworld. That said I don't care if people who only play WoW or Axis Allies (just to name two games) came to enworld, but it would seem rather pointless for them to.

This isn't a gamer site.

I know this because I never posted here back when I was a gamer. In 2004 I became exclusively a D&D3er. Only at that point did ENWorld become worthwhile for me.
I agree that if you don't play nor care about D&D ENWorld might not be the best place to hang out, but I've never considered myself exclusively a [whatever] gamer, even when i was playing only a single game.

I came to this site as a general gamer and still read it as a general gamer but I spent more time here while I was preparing for and running my 3.5 campaign than I do otherwise.

I first came here because of the 3e buzz. I hadn't seriously played D&D in years, having moved on quite happily to other games. 3e got me interested in straight D&D again (well... more or less straight ... I never did play RAW).

Anyway, back around the 3.5 kafuffle I moved more and more away from WotC and D&D. I picked up a lot of third party material and began altering 3e so much that it was only loosely connected to its origins. Finally, about a year ago, I weened my group off of D20 altogether. We have no interest, either as a group or individuals, in 4e.

But I keep haning around to keep up on the buzz, here what people are saying about their games, and to find out what people are reading and watching.

Hey, when you're nearing 50, it's good to keep at least some ties to a younger geek community. ;)

I'm not a gamer.

I don't find this site hostile to other games, it just seems that the site is focused almost exclusively on D&D and therefore kinda...pointless?... to show up here to talk about non-d20 games.

I know that pretty much the only reason I come here is for information on D&D 3.0 and 3.5. Once those stop being the major focus of the site, I will most likely come here less and less. I go to other sites for information on non-D&D related gaming. If I didn't play D&D I would probably have never come to this site, to be honest.

Yup, although in my case I never played a d20 game until a couple of years ago, and just didn't see a point in learning about whatever the new version of D&D was until I was actually going to play it.

I've no clue whether I'll stick around though, as it depends on whether I decide to pick up 4E stuff, and how friendly this board stays towards the folks that don't upgrade.
