I identify myself as a gamer because even though all the gaming I do is d20, most of it is homebrew or third party. I suppose you could say that I am a fan of the underlying mechanics of the game but not so much of the inconsistant execution or some of the sacred cows.

The main reasons I hang around ENWorld are that the people are generally friendly, the moderators do their jobs, and people here seem much more interested in the aspects of gaming that I am. There are plenty of lively discussions here about homebrew games, non-WotC d20 products, and the social and business aspects of the hobby, and I find it enjoyable, even if I don't have anything useful to contribute much of the time (thus my low post count after more than two years of daily visits).

I came here orginally for the Dr. Seuss word game (you asked :uhoh: )

I came here as a player of 3e but I REMAIN because of the friends I have made here. We all play various games; DnD, Board, Word and our favorites- Mind games.

I am a gamer. I primarily play D&D and D&D variants, however. I am DMing a Castles and Crusades game right now, but I'll play in any edition of D&D. I won't DM 3.x, however, because I consider it too rules heavy for my taste.

I love Gygaxian-style fantasy as embodied in 1st Edition AD&D, which causes me to have a negative opinion of the upcoming 4th edition. I still consider myself a D&D player, however, and remain interested in what's happening with the game. I do not consider myself a Grognard in any way, because I have always thought that 1st Edition had a lot of problems that could have been fixed with more unified rules. I hated 2nd Edition, however, because I felt like TSR had taken out the adult flavor from the game in order to placate the Mothers of America. I DM C&C because I feel like it fixes 1st Edition's rules problems while retaining the Gygaxian flavor that I love, and I can freely use material from ANY of old D&D books and issues of Dragon that I own.

I see the ENworld forums as THE place to discuss D&D, with a primary focus on the currently produced rules set, and a secondary focus on its related games (previous editions, C&C, True20, etc.) I have no problem with the fact the ENworld is always going to focus on whatever the currently produced D&D rules are, because there are already other forums devoted to previous editions. Plus, the fact that I disagree with much of what is said here makes it worthwhile for me to post. A world where everybody has the same opinion would be a world not worth living in anymore!

Initially, I came here because I was a gamer and I found these forums to be better moderated (i.e., more professionally moderated) than other general RPG discussion forums and, generally speaking, friendlier.
QFT. The excellent moderation is one of the main draws for me here.

Of course, as others have argued, the community here is focused on D&D, so if you have little interest in it, there is a lessened incentive to interact with the community.

I'm a gamer of varied interests, but my presence here is mostly because I'm very curious about D&D 4e and because, even if I'm not currently playing 3e, I have a huge "investment" in it.

I'm a gamer. I play multiple RPG's, CCG's, boardgames and a handful of wargames. However, I only come to ENW because its a D&D site. So, with that in mind I don't know which option I would vote for.

This isn't a gamer site.

I know this because I never posted here back when I was a gamer. In 2004 I became exclusively a D&D3er. Only at that point did ENWorld become worthwhile for me.

Interesting benchmark, and probably an accurate one. rpg.net is clearly more suited to the eclectic gamer, and we're much, much more focused on D&D. I don't think we're hostile to other games, though.
