What are you reading? [July]

I am working my way through The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. Read Storm Front and Fool Moon so far, and I have the next one on order from the library.

I am also getting into the Jack Vance back catalogue. A lot of his stuff is out of print; I was up in Portland last week and got The Blue World and To Live Forever from Powell's books. A lot of his stuff has been re-released in omnibus editions, which is how I finally got the Alastor trilogy.

I also have Neal Stephenson's Zodiac on deck for some point this summer. I liked The Diamond Age and Snow Crash, although I think you have to be in a certain... mood to appreciate NS.

I´ve just finished Kiril Yeskov´s "The last ring" (don´t touch it if you idolatrize Tolkien). The part about Opar was confusing as hell, but overall the book is very good. I´ve only read from Sapkowski, and now Yeskov, but seems that fantasy from eastern Europe is quite refreshing.

Edit: Seem that Yeskov or Sapkowsky have not been translated to english. :\ . If they are in the future, give them a chance.

Just finshed "Fiendish Codex I". I've abandoned "Iron Council" for now, although I will go back to it.

Now reading "Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince", which I picked up in paperback on Monday. I'm enjoying it so far, although I'm only 2 chapters in.

Just finished 'A DIrty Job' by Christopher Moore.

Good.Lord.

Every book he just keeps getting better. This is one not to miss for modern fantasy fans.

I just finished "Darkness Weaves" by Karl Earl Wagner. Just Prior to that, I re-read James Ellroy's "L.A. Confidential". Presently reading "Night Winds" by Karl Earl Wagner.

Well, I just finished an old Icelandic Saga called "Egil's Saga" ... if any of you haven't ever head a chance to read the old Icelandic Sagas or Edda you should. This stuff is great.

Also completed a lloonnggggg series of lectures from the teaching company on the Vikings, and am all fired up.

Other than that, yesterday I listened to John Clees reading the Screwtape Letters (an absolute riot) and picked up the book again last night.

I finished The Demolished Man last night. Very good. I started reading The Eyes of God by John Marco today. It's one of those books I haven't heard anything about, but picked up on a whim at the bookstore. We'll see how it turns out.
