I love the wizard and sorcerer classes because magic is awesome. 3rd in line is the fighter, sometimes you just want to hit things and the fighter comes with just a smidge more customisation than other classes due to that extra feat at 6th level.

There are several homebrew classes that I would pick before any of the official classes. 5e’s light chassis and the development of online tools that make it easy to make homebrew material that looks exactly like official material have made 5e the best edition, by far, for home brewing.

Keeping it strictly to official 5e material, I went rogue (easily the best class design in 5e), warlock (several excellent design features outweigh its flaws), and Druid (purely because it’s a class trope I always go back to).
