"Thems the breaks. Movin' on."

No option I can vote for.

Let's not forget the game part of roleplaying games. You win some, you lose some.

Something like indifferent, but with examples and options on how to get back to the campaign afterwards - either with the same characters or a new party.

However, I think these issues should also get some PHB space. The attitude the players have to character death matters more for a group's reaction to a TPK.

I voted b) Disappointed, but I want to change the rationale.

a) Apologetic -- "Sorry guys, my bad, I didn't balance it well enough."

Absolutely I don't want this to happen... I don't want a game where I have to be really carefully on balancing an encounter, because if I make it one level higher than it should then it becomes impossible. I want a robust game that if I make it 2-3 levels higher (accidentally or not), it's still fairly in the range of doable, or at least the PCs have the time to run away.

b) Disappointed -- "Tsk, I wanted to see you succeed but you didn't bring your A-game."

I want b) Disappointed -- "Tsk, why didn't you guys run away??? Didn't you notice that you had no chance against its XYZ ability? How many PC deaths were you waiting for before changing from your original purpose "kill the monster" to "save your lives"?"

But also b) Disappointed -- "Damn... why didn't I give you off more warning signs that this encounter was too hard / was going worse than expected?"

c) Gloating -- "HA, I the Dungeon Master have beaten you with my creations, which means I win!"

Heck, not this one! I win when my players win! :p
