What CAN a warblade use with a maneuver?

I get the feeling that the developers were THINKING that strikes use an attack action, but ended up WRITING that they use a standard action....

Spring Attack I think gets people confused because in 3.0, you still got a Standard action you just split up your move before & after the Standard Action.....which honestly I like better.

Er, no; even in 3.0, you could only use an attack action with Spring Attack. However, it was worded so that the movement you got _with_ that attack action was split before and after your attack roll. For example, you can't move and cast with Spring Attack, whether in 3.0 or 3.5.

Well DUH. :D

This is a D&D Rules thread, not a Houserules thread. Otherwise I wouldn't be pointing out what the rules themselves dictate.

As for the Combat Expertise example: Obviously the designers forgot CE's wording or forgot how they worded the use of maneuvers, and slipped up. Either they meant for CE and other such combat feats to be useable with maneuvers, or they did not.

I would actually lean towards CE and combat feats not being usable with maneuvers. Maneuvers are already pretty strong, and allowing them to be combined with feats like Spring Attack (especially) would make them OTT.

This may be me reading something into CE but I interpreted it to mean that if you use CE you *must* make an attack since you can't earn a bonus if you don't take a penalty. IMO that's so people can't use CE in conjunction with other actions (like, say moving and drinking a potion with an AC bonus).

Under this interpretation, CE would work with maneuvers as long as the maneuver involved an attack roll.
