What can you tell me about living in/around Baltimore?

Anyone have anything to say about Roland Park? Good, bad, or ugly? I have a lead from a gamer in my group for a friend who has an apartment available in that area of Baltimore...

Also, does anyone use the commuter rail in Baltimore? I'm curious about using it to commute to work, since I was told the facility I'll be working at has a stop very close by.

The uh.. commuter rail in Baltimore is like 2 stops long and not very useful for most people.

It's like if you were playing Sim City and you had enough money for 2 stations and about 8 pieces of track and THATS IT.

 That doesn't sound very promising! Guess I'll plan on driving then. Thanks for the heads-up Peter.

Roland Park is an older area. i lived off of University Parkway just before leaving Baltimore in 1995.

So it can be hit and miss. Not the neighborhood hit and miss. the neighborhood is fine. but the actual place you will be living in. Some of the homes are in bad need of repair esp when they have been converted to apartments.

Speakin' of which, you need to let me know when you're back in the area. I believe I still owe you a beer from the old Castle of Fun threads, back in the day...

looking at the ENWurld map...

you live less than 1/4 mile as the crow flies from my parents' house. the street you live on didn't exist when i lived in MD. but every time i go home i watched the 'hood expand.

Thanks again to everyone that replied. Unfortunately I won't be moving to Baltimore after all...the offer I thought I had successfully negotiated never materialized. :( I will be moving however, I just accepted an awesome new job near Dulles Airport in Virginia. I've just started a new thread asking about that particular part of the country, so if you have some ideas I'd love to hear them! :) Here's the link: Living around Dulles, VA

Hey! Stop suggesting to people that they move into Catonsville! You're just encouraging the housing developers and they're cutting down all the trees! [/nimby] Of course, there's nowhere else in the world I'd rather live... and apparently other people agree...
