What class is your villian?

I was just reading through MojoDM's thread about how your villians escape and it got me thinking ...

What class is your villian?

Do you prefer spell-casters? What about fighters? Rogues?

The only recurring villain I have used as a DM was a drow sorcerer who had cloned himself to defy death and even tho the party defeated him two times and killed him each time, he came back for revenge and they started to wonder how they could possibly get rid of him. ;)

Another sorcerer (a kobold) escaped the party with a scroll of invisibility (that was during the early levels) and came back much later as a rather powerful spellcaster (controlled by another DM (we're taking turns DMing), kinda fun idea to let this kobold come back).

An evil rogue or bard would make a great villain, too.

Usually, the ones we come up against are spellcasters. I think that makes them just so much more sinister...A tough warrior is hard to take out but someone with magical powers is that much harder, IMHO.

I don't limit myself to specific classes for villians, but, looking over things, there has been a rather large amount of clerics and sorcerers (not as many wizards, unusually).

Demiurge out.

Spellcasting classes are usually the best choice for BBEGs. The lower item values for NPCs hurts Fighters and Rogues far more than a Sorcerer or Cleric.

Wizard but druids are well represented in the halls of evil.

I'd prefer fighters, but they don't have as many nifty and cool options. If a wizard is ever backed into a corner he can always build a phyral- ... pyal- ... phyarly- .... lich-making-gizmo and get a "power up".
