Using the Summon Monster spells, can a Neutral cleric of a Neutral god summon creatures of any alignment?

If you know, please cite a source. Thanks!

Yes. The only restriction is that a cleric can't cast spells with an opposed descriptor (PH page 32), so there's no restriction on a neutral cleric - or a wizard of any alignment.

Adding to that, this only applies to a true neutral cleric. For example, a lawful neutral cleric cannot summon a chaotic good creature becuase the opposite alignment rule still applies.

There's always the difference between what he could do and what he would do. While the cleric is neutral, his deity is neutral good (is that possible at all? I thought that you can only be neutral if your deity is neutral, so neutral good gods can have only lg ng and cg clerics!?), and might not be very happy about his priest sending findish beasts into His fight. That could mean that either the god would not grant the request or the cleric would not want to cast an evil spell in his gods name, even though the clerics alignment permits it.

Yes. There is no reason why he couldn't.

Under "Class Features" for the cleric...

"Chaotic, Evil, Good, and Lawful Spells: A cleric can’t cast spells of an alignment opposed to his own or to his deity’s. For example, a good cleric or a neutral cleric of a good deity cannot cast evil spells. Spells associated with the domains of Chaos, Evil, Good, and Law are identified as such on the “Level” line of the spell description."

You're right. It isn't possible. The PHB description of the cleric specifically says (under "Alignment") that a cleric can only be neutral if his deity is neutral.

The restriction against casting spells of opposite alignment applies both to your alignment and to your god's. So neither the lawful good cleric of a lawful neutral god nor the lawful neutral cleric of a lawful good god can summon fiendish critters.

I've been playing a true neutral cleric of Boccob and been having a lot of fun summoning bebeliths to do my dirty work. But watch out, if you're running with good characters their constant whining about you not summoning devils/demons can give you a headache.

Solution: Cast silence on the party first. ;)

They almost didn't give me the Tome of Understanding +5 because of that. :(

Thanks everyone

The PC in question is a cleric of Obad Hai (a neutral god). The PC is also neutral.
That's a pretty sweet deal, being able to summon the whole gamut of critters.
