2E had some great art, IMHO...Jeff Easley is one of my favourite fantasy artists...

Like I said – I think Easley is okay, I just think that particular picture is lacking, especially for the main/most necessary book of the game.

Totally – Brom and DeTerltizi (sp?) were the best artists, IMO, of 2nd edition.

I do like Elmore as well.

Dungeon and Dragon magazines should have gotten the axe a long time ago really. With the internet, people really don't need flashy mags with pretty artwork, and inflated price tags.

Sites like EnWorld are and have always been a superior alternative to the mags...hence the longevity and the success of those sites.

And this is why Electronic Games Monthly (EGM) is still one of the hottest, most respected video gaming magazines around. It's also long running (I remember reading it in the early 1980's).

If video gamers who by nature are pretty tech-saavy want a print magazine, I think ostlander's statement is discredited.

That was the first cover of the PHB. There was a latter cover as well, I believe, and it was less impressive. But if that is the one you mean, I really liked it!

Thanks for the correction...they had it in a brown box (maybe it was a deluxe edition or something, who knows, I was young) when I saw it. I wanted a copy when I was older for a collection piece. I will check out the ebay for it, lol. It should be interesting to see how much they're going for.

You are actually thinking of D&D. Chainmail was always a spiral bound book. D&D came in a wood grain box and required Chainmail to use.
