What did you do to my DM??

Enigma

First Post
I know my dm goes to this place all the time, he is a wimpy lurker. Anyway he did something to our group and he said he got the idea from all of you guys.

He said if I had a problem with it to post it here, said you like to know who is in groups and what happened. Here it goes.

Group

Cleric of Tyr, level 5

Paladin of Tyr, level 6 Those 2 are brothers

Me, Level 5 rogue, not stealing kind. He said to mention that.

Well we live in this tavern in ravens bluff, we rent out the top floor for our living space. Now the innkeeper is an ex thief and my teacher. He gave up the life of stealing, but knows a lot of secrets and is basically our groups patron.

Well this other group of adventures have been bugging for some time. Something about a stolen map and buried treasure in the dragon sea. We got it first, they want it. So there thief breaks into our tavern and we catch him, fire trapped chest, stuff like that. The cleric and paladin are all happy to catch this guy, and promptly we take the bastard to the church of tyr for justice. I brought the map with us just in case they tried again. After spending a few hours in the church, telling the church this guy robbed from us, they throw him in jail. I personally wanted to kill the guy but darn paladins say no. We get to our tavern and now the innkeeper is gone. There is a ransome note left behind, give us the map, tell the church it was a mistake or the innkeeper gets it.

Hell no, we go out into the city and start looking for the guys. After spending some hefty gold for bribes we find out they are on a ship in the docks. Well we rush the ship, its empty but the innkeeper is dead. Looks like they hit with a mace in the back of the head. Well now we are out for blood, going to get a posse together from the church of tyr and hunt this group down. The next day we talk to the corpse to see what happened. Well he said he was kidnapped by our rivals, he tried to escape so they hit him with a sword and he died. The church was nice enough to give us a divination to find out the bad guys are running towards procampur. Our game ends and will pick up next Thurs.

The DM said he got the idea from here. He also mentioned that some people said that what the bad guys did wasn't evil. WTF?? They kidnapped our freind and killed him?? How can that not be evil? What did you guys do?

It would help to know what thread he got his advice from, preferrably a URL. There are thousands of registered members and many more thousands of threads and posts, and it's difficult to know exactly what is being talked about unless there are specifics.

Well, I wouldn't want to comment to a player concerning a game in progress, aside from saying I know the thread, it didn't specifically concern your group aside from giving your DM his ideas (which I come here often for), and most of us agreed that it WOULD be evil. So go get 'em tiger.

It was a very long thread called "Is this Evil?" that's probably on page 2 or 3 by now. There were a wide variety of opinions about whether what the other party did was evil. Like you though, I said, "WTF"? Its kidnapping, extortion, and (accidental) murder, since when is that not evil?

That thread doesn't even remotely resemble the story in the first post of this thread.

Actualy, it does. It's just told from (sort of) the other point of view. If you read it, you will notice all the major points from the earlier thread are there... theif getting in trouble, another group tries to rectify it, demands are made, person is acidentaly killed with a sword...

The difference is that while I maintain the acts are evil in either situation, the former one was worse... this plays out more like a turf war or something.

I started to read that thread you posted and now I see where he got he idea. Oh we will hunt the group down, tyr has judged them guilty :)

After reading more threads here I hope we don't face any 60th level  necromancers.

So, what are you upset about? The scenario definitely sounds plausible. Are you only quibbling about whether it was an Evil act or not? If so, why does it matter to you?
