I was talking about Mechwarrior and Battletech... never heard of Bubblegum Crisis.

Go read Hammer's Slammers by David Drake.

ok, badly worded post. but what i was trying to say is that d20 future tech (that follow up soft cover that wotc released) have rules for turning the d20 future mecha into battletech style walking tanks.

Not because of the mecha rules, but I sold my copy of D20 Future. I'm not buying Future Tech. I was burned by Future and don't want anything more to do with that line. Other than mutations, a couple of templates, the Urban Tracking feat and spaceship combat there's really nothing I want from it, and it's all in the MSRD anyway.

But that's the point we're trying to make... Why make a walking tank with complicated, vulnerable leg joints and balancing systems, when you make a compact, reliable hovertank just as easily.

Obviously you would re-name the slots, though :) I would increase the hardness to 25 if it were up to me.

because they look cool :)

But yes reality wise the lack of soft spots for the hover tank works better.

well, sorry for trying to inform some people on this thread: "hey, they did come out with rules for mecha as walking tanks. it just wasnt in d20 future". it seemed to be one of the big issues people had with the mecha rules from d20 future...

And honestly, that's their only real advantage over conventional military equipment.

THEY'RE GIANT FRIGGAN ROBOTS !!!!!11!!!1

Which makes Macross mecha the only ones that make sense.

I mean seriously...

"Why would anyone make a 50 foot tall walking mecha?"

"Umm...because the aliens we're going to have to fight are 50 feet tall? And if we can't fight them person to person, we are SOO screwed."

"Oh. Gotcha. Well, THAT makes sense." ;)
