It seems bizarre to me to lump OD&D with C&C rather than either (or both) of those with AD&D. Really, C&C is separated from OD&D not only by AD&D but also by 3e (to which it has by design certain similarities).
Sorry, I played C&C once, and I heard it and BFRPG and OD&D were ery similar in terms of play even though theyre not from the same era. If I was wrong I was misinformed. I haven't played bfrpg, or OD&D, likewise for some of the other games.
Where are the later Basic, Expert, etc., sets supposed to fit? Did you mean to lump them with OD&D and C&C as well? Are they supposed to be "other"?
By similarity I guess. I haven't seen or played them, only heard them mentioned in passing. and even then, only had that once or twice. I've hardly tried everything, I just wanted to get an estimate of what people here play. If I could add more options for the things I missed, or add the ability to change your vote, I would. That's how I've been handling the same poll on our university rpg club forum (which has drastically different results), but not many people have voted yet.
The poll on the whole may end up saying more right back to you about your own peculiar view of things than about any prevailing view even among the self-selected sample of respondents.
I was just trying to group by mechanics/playstyle. There are alot of games I simply haven't played, and haven't seen anyone else play. All the ones you have mentioned are things I have little experience with.
I've played C&C (Once), 2eAD&D, 3e, 3.5, pathfinder, trailblazer, 4e, oWoD, nWoD, Exalted, Aberrant, WFRP2e, Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, Paranoia, and Savage Worlds a couple of times (Deadlands).
I could have just listed everything else under other, but I figured I'd try to list them separately even without having much experience with them, so that people would be more likely to see their favorite game on the list. Sorry I missed some, and didn't group them all the way you would have preferred. it was bound to happen regardless of my efforts, as there is no way I have played every RPG that some guy on the internet considers his favorite.
It also occurs to me now that I missed cyberpunk, rifts/palladium, traveller, and shadowrun, along with many others now springing to mind, all of which I have NO real idea how the game actually works. I know rifts/palladium is supposedly complicated, and shadowrun uses alot of d6es.
I assure you, it was not meant as a personal slight against you. How would you have grouped them together, and what extra would you have listed instead of lumping them under other?
I'll go see if I can add new options to the poll/allow re-voting, for what it's worth, but I don't think itll let me.
{Edit} Nope. Can't add more options/allow re-voting.
