What do you do if a Raven follows you?

We shot at it. The party was traveling acri\oss country by foot. We had just left a heavily forrested area and were traveling through some plains following old hunting trails. For a few hours there was this one raven that followed us. It did not behave naturally according to the Ranger in the group. So, we shot it. Granted, it might noit have been the best solution to the non problem of a bird following us, but at the time it seemd like the right thing to do (and we got to joke about the Order of the Stick comic from a little while ago with the familar flying over ther bandit camp...).

The group is only second level so we don't have that much going for us. After hitting the bird with a magic missile and an arrow (total of like 12 damage) and it lived we knew it was not a normal raven. The cleric/ranger approached and healed it. Then it shape changed (I was expecting it to be a local grand druid ready to kill us for attacking it) into a dragon like creature the size of a big dog. We don't know what it is, but we are not finished dealing with the little guy.

But I just want to know what do you all do when a Raven (or other bird) follows you.

Yep! Those are my first two thoughts.

Put down some Raven Chow and try to catch him.

Recipe: Raven Chow

1/2 cup fresh worms
1/2 cup pills bugs
A pinch of sugar
Three drips of honey
One crushed Black Dragon claw (extra fine)

Has it attacked you yet?
Can it speak common?
Can you ask it questions?
Can you speak its probable language via a spell of some sort?
Have you more importantly cast hold monster on it or restrained it in some way?

I hope you're not playing The Black Company (where projecting wizards manifest as ravens) or Oathbound (where the Queen of Penance sends out ravens to keep tabs on people she takes...).

If Druid gets eaten ---> Run

If Druid survies ---> Eat raven just in case

Same thing happened to us in a game I play. We were low level, and it flew just far enough away to be out of range of our spells. No party druid to wildshape and go after it. It was weird. It followed us for days. That game is still going on, so we haven't quite found yet 100% what it was. We have our suspicions, of course. That game's been on hiatus for more than 6 months 'cause one of our player couples had a baby. I had totally forgotten about that raven!
