What do you do if a Raven follows you?

Use true seeing to make sure the raven isnt a polymorphed Ancient Red.
If so, drink as much beer as possible and repent all your past sins.
If not, pet the raven and make it your friend; ravens are people too.

In the last game I played in the party was wandering across a badlands with precious few resources. We spotted a winged creature flying about. My character figured it was a bird and took a shot at it. We were running low on food. I missed. Not because of bad aim but because it wasn't a bird. As it descended towards us, it grew larger and larger until it resolved into a flying demon with some sort of imperial guard mounted atop it. One bloody melee, a melted MW chain shirt and a wrath of the Empire later and I think my bard became a vegetarian.

You shot at it? AH! You should have offered a sacrifice to Odin. That and checked to make sure you didn't have something dead on your back.

well ravens are the CG vigilanties of the bird kingdom. Maybe the PC's accidently (or out of boredom) angered some robbins and they called in their cousins for a little 'pay-back'. Nuthin like getting your butts handed to you by 50 crows at second level to make you re-think that carrer in massage therapy.

Ah.. the old paranoia of adventurers.. isn't it grand?
Well, after much paranoia... I was recently in a group that used Scorching Ray on a bird that seemed to be following us.
Never did learn if it was an animal companion or not.. probably not, because it just flopped there is a pile of ash. Even our pets didn't want to eat that overcooked bird. :)

a murder of crows is currently following the party i referee. they have no idea what is going on, but then they have never even looked at normal animals as potential monsters.
Considering the frequency of combat in most games I've been in, every adventuring party should probably have ravens following them around all the time. To scavengers, PC's are wandering gourmet chefs.

yup. they kill things and take their stuff. and leave the bodies behind. only comrades get burial rites.

A raven following? Well there's a few basic possibilities:

1) You're being watched by a servant of a sort of war god. Pray for a quick death.

2) You're being watched by a trickster deity. Pray for a quick, and unembarrassing, death.

3) You're being followed by an omen of death. No real need to pray, is there?
