I recall once using a pocket calc and, to generate a d10, I would insert whatever number came out of poking at the buttons randomly, get the square root, and use the digit before the rightmost (if I used the rightmost I would miss the zero). I sure have no way to know in advance what the 5th decimal of the square root of a 6 digits number is going to be. I'm not sure the digits in random square roots are evenly distributed, though.
