I like the idea of Signature Spell and Spell Thematics working together, but allowing any of your theme spells to be spontaneously cast is way too good. Signature Spell, as written, allows spontaneous casting of one spell. Adding theme spells to that means you could spontaneously cast up to eleven (one for Signature spell, plus one per each of the ten spell levels) spells for the price of two feats, plus the other benefits of Spell Thematics. That easily equals or exceeds the power of the epic feat Spontaneous Domain Access, which allows clerics to spontaneously cast any of their spells from one domain (which only has nine spells), and you get to choose every one of your theme spells--effectively, your themed spells would constitute a customizeable domain, except without a domain power.

I would take things the other way round, and allow you to add Signature Spells to your theme list.

Great idea, it's now on my House Rules list.

Merlion; your idea in effect makes Signature Spell weaker than it already is. Arcaners already have a dearth of better feats, feats that they'll use in nearly every encounter. Even a Sig Spell: Limited Wish (most bang-for-buck Sig spell by far) won't be used as often as Imp Initative, Empower, Quicken, Spell Penetration, Spell Focus, Extend Spell, etc. Limiting a (slightly) weaker feat to require another (slightly) weaker feat AND choose from 9 spells instead of hundreds is not a good idea, ESPECIALLY when Sig Spell already requires a throw-away feat like Spell Mastery. That makes Signature Spell 3 feat chain nowhere NEAR as good as Spring Attack, or even the 2 feat chains of Greater Spell Focus, Greater Spell Pen, or Persistent spell.

Now replacing the Spell Mastery prereq with Spell Thematics, thats a cool idea. I'll have to consider that.

Except that allowing that with Signature spell means that you need 3 feats to achieve that combination, and on top of that, you'd need to use your spell mastery with each and every one of your Thematic spells to make it work.

I think the 3 feat chain with those restrictions can be comparable to one epic feat easily myself, but I suppose it's just a matter of opinion.

What we're talking about(or at least what I'm talking about) is replacing Spell Mastery with SPell Thematics as a prequisite for signature spell. and probably only allowing it to singaturize one of your theme spells

Understood, I just disagree with that. I don't think the two should have to go together as prereqs, nor do I think it's overboard to allow it to work with all your spell thematic spells as I said above, that was my point.

Spell Thematics is a great effect for customizing wizards, but it also forces one theme on all wizards. Signature spell gives the wizard one notable spell that he uses alot, but I don't think it should automatically have to look a specific way unless he wants to combine the two feats into a better combination.

Ohh yea I see what you mean. I think it could work any of the above mentioned ways. although it does seem like allowing all your theme spells to get signaturized could be a little on the powerful side maybe. but its hard to know thease things without trying it out.

This is what my post 2 up was talking about:

That is in relation to the power of the feats together, and addressing the issue.

Arg. you'll have to excuse me...I need to go read or something I've been looking at thease boards for too long.
Actualy what I really need is to actualy PLAY again...
