D&D 5E What do you think they call 5.5e Ultimately?

I feel that if there is a "5.5", they will call it "D&D". Maybe with a subname for the particular books like "Anniversary" or some cute play on 5e and 50, but that will just be book names much like we have the "Everything" guides now.
  1. 3.5 had backlash when introduced, so when they introduced a new version in 4e they called it Essentials but kept the system as 4e showing that they will already avoid a naming change.
  2. They have shown through years of choices that they don't want to invalid anything. So until they go to 6e, everything they do will be fully comparable. Which is something they have already announced for the 2024 books.
  3. They don't call 5e, "5e", they just call it D&D. They don't want consumers to think about edition, just Dungeons and Dragons. The idea that they are going to call it something different flies in the face of what they have been doing.
Basically, until they go to a new edition I think they will keep it all fully compatible and explicitly not change the name.
