I use ones I design in Word Perfect. I customize each sheet to each character I play, but have a generic template I work from.

A lot of the stuff that you need to know, but is invisible in play (where all those AC bonuses come from, tallying saves and such) I have a little worksheet for.

In actual play, the only thing a non spellcaster needs is my one page front sheet.
A spellcaster uses that, and a second sheet for spells.

DMGII Format

I just print out a Word file formatted like the new stat blocks in DMGII. I love it, and find it very easy to use. All the other members of my game group think that I am insane for using it, though, and constantly berate me to use a "normal character sheet"! :)

I did up a version in Excel, based on the original design but modified to add some things I wanted/needed (more slots for feats/abilities, e.g.). I did a sheet for animal companions, one for spells/powers, and one for special items, though the base character fits on one sheet (front/back). I mainly did it for the autocalc function, because it's a lot faster (fewer numbers to fill in) and less chance of mistakes.

The inside of my books, mostly or a piece of paper if I'm feeling adventurous. Of course I can't use the ones with dark insides, like the DMG or Libris Mortis.

Bastards!

I created my own character sheet in Excel, and included auto-calculating features so I don't have to deal with math or updating everything when a stat goes up (for instance, I enter that I have an 18 Str. The sheet automatically detects that I have a +4 bonus, and adds that to my damage with whatever weapons I have, as well as updating my skill totals). The 'standard' character sheets don't meet my needs, and neither do most of the ones from the internet, so it was easier to create my own.

I've usually been happy with the sheet from the 3.5 PHB, but recently I decided to get a PDF sheet that could be filled in on the computer instead of writing all the info in pencil and then ending up with a faded and smudged sheet after a few weeks of use. Unfortunately the one I've got is a 3.0 sheet. I don't mind that too much, but I do miss having the spaces for flat-footed and touch AC, and I prefer having armor on the back of the sheet so there can be more space for weapons on the front.

I wish someone did class-specific sheets. Maybe someone does and I just don't know about them. I really don't need all that spell info on the back of my sheet if I'm playing a fighter. :)
