D&D 5E What do you want and not want out of future settings added to 5E?

I don't want them to release any classic settings. Because that might be the only way to get the people who keep saying they want older settings released to 5E to finally give up on that idea and instead just play the older versions of the settings they already own and update them to 5E themselves. Because anything WotC does to publish these old settings for 5E is only going to remove or change things that these classic players felt like they HAD to have had for it to be a true representation... and they're going to just come here on the boards complaining and complaining and complaining. And frankly I'd just rather not see the boards here flooded with the inevitable caterwauling.

I can tell you all right now... a good lot of you are going to hate Dark Sun 5E if/when it gets released. So do yourself a favor and go dust off your 2E Athas material, do a google search for a set of defiler/preserver and breakable weapon house rules... and then play in Dark Sun with what you already got. It's the only way you're going to be truly happy. ;)
I agree completely.

Any setting they want to publish for 5e would be ok for me, but I want 5e to serve the setting and NOT the setting to serve 5e. That means, all those old settings are great already as they were written back in the days, they would only need RULES update (no STORY update) so that people who like the 5e system can run adventures in those settings. So if a setting had an important playable race, a 5e book for that setting should provide a 5e-rules-compliant version of that race, NOT tell the DM that they must add Tieflings and Dragonborn to a setting that never had them, only because they are in the PHB.

But of course that's exactly what WotC would do, so for now I am probably happier that they are not publishing much settings.

I am too used to await D&D books to be translated to my first languange, if this happens. I didn't buy Dungeonscape because I hope it was translated by Devir Iberia, but this didn't it.

I miss Dark Sun but I would rather a better work than a sooner return. I love the idea about the return of Spelljammer.

I would like to introduce the concept of parallel universes, to allow the reason because my Dragonlance setting is different (for example the order of the seekers are psionic adepts) or there are totemist shamans in my Dark Sun.

Sometimes I miss Greyhawk whe I feel a saturation of FR, to rest with a different world.

About Planescape I am only interested into the PC races, like the different planetouched.

Definitely not want: Timeline advances. If I know everything that happens to the world in my campaign might be invalidated by future releases, I don't feel like bothering starting a campaign.

What I would want are setting books that have numerous antagonists on a power level and importance that a typical low or mid-level party could defeat them for good without wrecking the setting's main premise, and plenty of ruins, caves, dungeons, and other sites that provide great hooks to run adventures in them, even if they don't come with maps of the areas.

What I really want is a world that is made to run my own campaigns in. Not a world that is supposed to be just looked at, but not meant for the players to do consequential things in.

How about a setting defined by its Martial Tradition for a change, instead of yet more spells and schools of magic? We just got a whole setting dedicated to spell casters (Strixhaven) how about one dedicated to heroes of blade and might? The Wizard's spell list is big enough.

And D&D is a medieval-level (even renaissance is an option, and one that barely fits properly) roleplaying game, always has been. It has no intention to fit other tech levels, most of these attempts have been really poor at modelling it and have had really little success. Again, very few people care.
Well, the question was "what would you like to see?", not, "what would be popular?" Very different questions, at least for me.

I cannot agree more. I'm one of those people who would (and has) complained.

I want a setting that will get official support with more releases. I don't really have faith WotC will come out with more material for a setting than a single book. It's happened, but I don't count on it.

That's why I've bought 3rd party material such as Midgard from Kobold Press. Picked up two Southland books at 50% off from my FLGS (at the time I didn't realize they were from a recent Kickstarter). I liked the books and there is other 5e content for Midgard available. So Kobold Press has $100-$200 more coming their way early next year.
