@Wraith101 - How would you change the diplomacy and intrigue elements of 4e to improve it?

Good question.

I do like the skill challenges of 4th ed, I think they will come in handy when abstraction is needed / wanted.

Otherwise:
Class features / powers that can be used to subtly change NPC attitudes.
Stuff that's not flashy or powerful and can be used in non-combat situations.

It depends what I am running. If I want a Hong Kong style martial arts fest I will use Feng Shui, if I want investigation of occult horror I will use CoC.

I shy away from generic systems, as they tend to end up making the game feel just that, Generic.

If however I was running a D&D style game, with all that involves, at the moment it would be 4E.

LOL

I used to get really bent out of shape over game arguments...what really "is" and "is not" D&D, the One True Game, this killing that and taking its stuff, whatever. Nowadays, I'm a lot more easygoing.

Really, all I want is a couple of Saturday nights each month, with my friends and our comfy chairs, some Dead Guy ale, and about six hours of not having to be somewhere else. The actual game itself isn't nearly as important.

That being said, I'm a big fan of BECMI and 3.5 Edition. Combining the two would be as close to perfect as possible, IMO.

I like fitting systems to settings, rather than the other way around. I am not a system loyalist.

Consider: if you want to run a game like Tolkein's Middle Earth, you will probably want a different set of rules than those for Howard's Hyperborea or Moorcock's Multiverse -- there are different parameters, feels, and goals in each of these worlds.

As such, I will think about the kind of game I want to run, then figure out what rules will map this best. :)

This isn't an edition wars thread and the other post was put in the wrong forum. You are always so negative, please stop. Especially since you represent your company.

Edit: @Jack 99, Glassjaw and Wulf: If I misunderstood Wulf's post then I apologize. His post seemed more like a subtle stab then a general sarcastic statement. Wulf has attacked my posts before and at regardless his post adds nothing productive to the thread.
