What don't you like about D&D?

I ran an epic level campaign for a long time and even though the story never got finished, I'm partially relieved that I don't have to run it each week. I worked at least 4 hours a week on the game and it felt like I did jack crap when I sat down at the table. Way too much math, too much paperwork and too many things to keep track of :)

Attacks of Opportunity, Feats, Clerics, Fire and Forget Magic.

The first (AoO) I just think suck every which way. I'd like to see them disappear.

The second (Feats) I like in theory, but not in execution. I think True20 called it right when they said that feats are essentially deliberate rule violations, as they let a charcter do things otherwise disallowed in the rules. This makes them far more complex than they need be.

The third (Clerics) I'd simply like to see toned down to be more. . . oh. . . clerical. I've had this issue with every edition of D&D.

The final (FaF Magic), I'd like to see disappear, as well -- to be replaced with something much more versatile. FaF Magic is pretty limited in utility when it comes to convincingly modeling magic from sources other than The Dying Earth.

I don't like that, in its core state, it cannot simulate some of the most popular fantasy settings out there. Not well, at least. Accordingly, a player new to D&D might have an entirely reasonable expectation not met.

That is what I like about several of the settings, add-ons and variants available from various publishers (including WotC). I also like the fact that with D&D 3e, adjusting the rules so that they can simulate/enable almost anything is a neat and intuitive process.

FWIW, I could never do without levels, vancian casting, or elves and gnomes. That wouldn't be D&D... that would be "another fantasy game". Maybe even "D20 Fantasy". ;)

I agree. I find that all of what the OP posted are what make D&D to me. It wouldn't be the same game or have the same feel if they were removed or changed.

The one thing I do truely hate though is Attacks of Opportunity.
