What Edition of D&D was your First (with fixed Poll)

Played a bit (got it not knowing better) with the D&D box set from 1990. Bought some 2e stuff, the 1e DL Adv. book, and was thoroughly confused. All while 2000 miles from my friends who'd be able to explain it all. Imagine trying to figure out why the DL book had Elf fighters, when the box set said elf and fighter were separate classes! 
Got back home from vacation. Tried running a game (when I'd never played!). It lasted 20-30 minutes. A friend, by this time, started a 1e game. Shortly, we were doing a 2e game (this was by.. 1993?) [So, I chose 1e, since that's what first made sense, when I was able to hunker down and learn it.]
Dropped RPGs for Magic (unintentionally) till around 1999. Got back in, and switched to 3e, then 3.5.
I plan on getting 4e, but don't hold your breath for a D&D Insider subscription (I like paper magazines!), or for supplements, for that matter.

I started with playing AD&D 1st.ed.
After that I joined a group playing D&D (the five-boxed set) but didn't find it to my liking.
When I started DMing, I used AD&D 1st.ed. which I continued to use until the last Dark Sun supplement came out.
Then I paused for a while until 3.0 came out. When I started my current campaign 3.5 arrived, and I immediately switched.
Now, I'm going to finish my current campaign and (depending on how long it takes) possibly start anothe one using 3.5 (Shackled City).
I'm definitely going to buy the 4th.ed. PHB as soon as it's available. I cannot say yet, if or when I am going to upgrade.

I remember being in High School and playing with a group of adults who had all the hard cover 1st edition books (only 3 at the time!) and the old tan booklets. I was amazed and beguiled and have never looked back! For my next birthday my folks got me the blue gray box and the Monster Manuel. Within months we switched to the hard covers.

Between a number of us we had three different "Basic" boxed sets - and I don't recall noticing much of a difference in them, back then. We migrated to AD&D fairly quickly, though. I played 1e for over a decade. Bailed from the hobby for almost a decade more, got into 3x for a few years, then went out searching for simpler and (to me) more fun systems.
I will probably purchase some of 4e, at least the PHB and maybe the DMG, if for no other reason than to plunder it for my other-game campaigns. I seriously doubt I'll run it, but I might play if someone else ran a game.
