A narrativist indie game with a couple pages of rules and setting custom designed around the Dinner Impossible concept. Maybe you could make a My Life With Master variant where Master is the Head Chef.
:P

I love this idea.

Prime Time Adventures

I've heard that PTA would be good for this kind of thing.

What about Dread? The PCs all have to pull to get various parts of their recipies right, they can try to setup/betray each other, and when the tower falls the head chef yells at you and kicks you off the show.

You don't have clearance for yellow or white onions, citizen...

PS

Nor Green ones...but Red Onions are available!

New: Black Licorice Icecream- the frosty desert that EVERYONE has clearance for!
Well citizen, what are you planning on serving at the High banquet honoring the computer, the new bouncy bubble beverage or classic bouncy bubble beverage?

Yes!

I'm thinking along "storytelling game" lines, maybe Hero Quest or The Pool.

For a cinematic comedic take in particular, Toon comes to mind.

For a take of insanity-inducing horror (or just a solid but not too complex "simulation" approach), there's Call of Cthulhu.

This would be pure roleplay in my games, I wold probably not even touch a dice, or make rolls not tied to skills, i.e. "luck" rolls to see how eas soemthing would be, so the edition would be irrevelant.
