What happened to FASA/Shadowrun?

I heard that FASA went under, and Shadowrun info certainly seems to be hard to find. If it is, it would be great to see someone buy the license and go d20 with it (though I liked a lot of the Shadowrun system, not all, but enough.) In light of Spycraft/d20 Modern this sounds like it might be more feasible.

WizKids (the people that make Mage Knight) bought the Shadowrun property (and Battletech, too, IIRC). They've licensed FanPro to produce new SR material, which they have slowly been doing. It's been a trickle, compared to previous levels of SR release.

The SR home page is www.shadowrunrpg.com -- there should be a list of released & upcoming products there, somewhere.

I don't think a d20 version is too likely, though.

They are still producing stuff for ShadowRun, last I heard. Heck I went to thier booth at Gen Con last year and bought new products from them. It didn't look like they were going under?

I don`t think there will ever be a official D20 Shadowrun Version, at least not if wizkids and/or fanpro survive. (And fanpro seems to make good money with their own Roleplaying System, DSA, though its primary market is "only" Germany. )

I like the Shadowrun d6-system, even with its flaws. :)

I'm not entirely sure, but IIRC, the 'big man' at FASA also fulfills the same roll with wizkids. Isn't that correct? So it kinda changed names, but it's still in the same hands.

Well I love Shadowrun, and it was a shock to me when FASA announced their closure. Luckily WizKids got the rights for Shadowrun. They really deserve the rights, because they have been doing the language conversions for it for a long time now, and their founder was also one of FASA's original founders. And what’s best the quality of the products is as good as ever.

Anyway, I'll be damned if I ever play a Shadowrun d20!!! The current system is just perfect, and it would be pure blasphemy to play it with some other rule system. Don't get me wrong the d20 system is great in it's own way. There are just many other more or less better systems around than the d20, and Shadowrun is on of them.

Fasa was very closely linked with VWE which ran the Battletech Centers. As far as I know VWE was never anything but a horrible money pit. So I would not be surprised if when VWE finally went under it put the terminal hurt on Fasa.

The guy behind Wizkids is Jordan Weisman, who was one of the founders of FASA (and is apparently the guy who came up with the basic idea or concept of Shadowrun).

But Shadowrun seems firmly in hands of Fanpro. But they seem to be following FASA's old plans for it (the first few puts they've put out were written during the FASA days) but they seem to have control of it past that.

Anyway, I'm hoping that WK will eventually make a Mage Knight version of Shadowrun - if only for a cheap source of fantasy-cyberpunk-SF figures. Some of the current MK ones work, since many of them have guns, but they look a bit odd
