What happened to Tim Drake?

I'm not to good at this but isn't he Dark wing now? I have afeeling that he has/had a comic book series.

Robin 1 (Dick Grayson) became Nightwing.

Robin 2 (Jason Todd) become little Robin-bits when the Joker done blowed him up.

Robin 3 (Tim Drake) ???? I had no idea Drake wasn't Robin anymore. Is there a fourth one? Should we start calling them Round Robin, and install a revolving door in the batcave?

[Personal but Strongly Held Opinion]

Or will the writers finally wise up to the fact that Robin isn't necessary anymore? He was a product of the time he was created. Batman is a dark, brooding, loner of a character. Having a kid sidekick is a dumb idea for heroes in general, but especially for him.

He's still very much alive and well. His father found out about him being Robin, and confronted him and Bruce about it. Tim hung up the tights as a result (primarily to appease his dad, not because there were any threats or anything... at least none I know of.)

His girlfriend Spoiler took over for a couple of issues (consensus seems to be that Batman did it to try and manipulate Tim into coming back to work- pretty petty move, if true.) She was recently "fired" by Batman, because of not following orders or something (because we all know that all the previous Robins were so good at following orders all the time.) From what I understand, her not following orders ended up in her saving his life, but that's no big thing either, I guess.

Anyway, she's back to being Spoiler, Tim's not Robin anymore. I expect all of that to change by the end of the War Games crossover that's going on in all of the Bat books. Consensus seems to be that something will happen to someone Tim cares about (Dad? Spoiler?) and make him pick up the tights again.

Someone else might be able to be a bit more specific. I don't read any of the Bat books (though I did pick up the Hush arc of Batman a while ago- good stuff.) I've just picked up on most of this through a general awareness of the comic industry.

Close. Drake hung up the mantle of Robin for the reason(s) Cthulhudrew mentioned, and Stephanie Brown (Spoiler) stepped in as the new Robin just as a hired assassin started killing any boy in Gotham that had Tim Drake's height/build/hair color in an effort to kill Robin.

Batman sends Cassandra Cain (Batgirl) to watch Tim Drake while he and the new Robin (Stephanie) find and eventually confront the assassin. They fight the assassin and get their butts kicked. They retreat to the cave to prepare for the rematch, but Batman gives Robin strict instructions not to interfere in the fight, but (as Cthulhudrew mentioned) Stephanie defies Batman's orders to save his life. After the battle, back at the cave Batman mentions Stephanie defied his orders while still on "probation" and as such is fired as Robin. As she leaves the cave Batman says this is the end of the Spoiler too - he dosen't want to see Spoiler around either.

Batman is not a dark, brooding loner. He is a wounded child desperately trying to undo the traumas of his past by preventing the same sort of evil from happening to other people, especially children. His whole double life is a cry for help. His penchant from minor sidekicks is entirely in keeping with his desire to emulate his idealized vision of his father and be a vengeful guardian angel all at the same time.

;)

Doesn't this screw up the new Teen Titans series? From the first eight issues it appeared to me that they were making the Tim Drake Robin the central character (okay, I'm a few issues behind).

Thank you for clearing up that mystery...I was wondering aloud the sudden absence of 'Robin', man that was quick.

Geoff Johns is going to address this in the Teen Titans (which I do read, as it happens). Spoiler/Robin is slated to appear in at least one issue, and when Tim picks up the tights again, he'll be back. One of the stories that Johns is going to tell, in fact, will deal with the Superboy/Robin friendship and whether it exists outside of their costumed identities or not.

I gotta tell ya, his Avengers run wasn't spectacular (mostly because it died out a bit at the end), but Johns is one of the great comic writers out there now. His Titans is great, his Flash is great, his Hawkman was pretty good (it got me to pick up Hawkman fer cryin' out loud!), and pretty much all the things I read of his are golden. He's flexible, too- he really works to incorporate as many things that are going on with the characters in other books as he can (an upcoming storyline in Flash will deal with repercussions from Brad Meltzer's "Identity Crisis"). That's class, if you ask me. Seems too many writers/comics nowadays (*cough* X-Books *cough, cough*) ignore the fact that there are other titles out there and they are "living" in a shared world.

Speaking of Teen Titans (and blatantly hijacking your thread):

I wonder what will happen to Beast Boy/Changeling's history (as sorta "mascot" of the Doom Patrol), now that the Doom Patrol has been ret-conned back into the DC universe as being a new team (and the old team apparently having never existed)? [I will save my grumbles about negating the old history of the Doom Patrol, as maybe that is merely a sign of my age].
