D&D 5E What happens if I unknowingly teleport into an invisible creature's space?

In actual play, if the players/PCs in general, and the one Misty Stepping specifically, do not know the invisible creature is in that space, as DM I would probably just move the invisible creature 5’ so it is out of the way.

I would be super curious to see how folks' opinion about this solution correlate to other contentious issue. I think this is the perfect solution, but I would guess (based on previous posts, on other topics) that it would feel very wrong to some people.

The spell should fail. Nothing more nothing less.
But what are the consequences of both options?

1) Player is moved to another square.
That is not where the player wanted to move. Since the spell went off and worked, it means something invisible was/is in that square.

The invisible creature is now a sure thing. It's position is now known. Players will attack it ASAP before it moves.

2) The spell fails. (Which is both RAW and RAI)
Now questions are asked. But no clear answer this time. Was it countered? Was the square unavailable because of an invisible foe? Is there a wall of force on that square? Was it something else?
The fact that the spell failed brings more uncertainty than just a : " Hey! I got moved aside, someone is invisible right there!". This alone makes things much more interesting and by that fact alone should be the default. Which, again, is both RAW and RAI.
