What happens when a wizard loses a hand?

I was of the impression that you could wear 2 rings per hand. . .

You had me wondering for a second, there... I checked the SRD to make sure. It's 2 total. It doesn't specify that it has to be one per hand, and I'm sure there's some rules nuts who will insist that since it doesn't say so, it ain't so. (An Artoomis-sounding argument, if ya ask me! )

Since the rules say 2 rings total, and most adventurers will have two hands, I'd rule one ring per hand. (Even if someone transforms into a 3-handed shape. )

City Guard: "Why do you have a hand around your neck?"

Mage: ?

City Guard: "That's it! We're taking you in!"

Mage: "But it's my OWN hand... I can wear my OWN hand around my neck if I want to, right?"

City Guard: "Um... no law against that. Nevermind." Grumble

I thought about that one, too. It would depend on the guy's race. Hand of Glory requires a human hand, and Hand of the Mage requires an elven hand.

Maybe he's a half-elf, and can make one of each.

He could only wear one at a time, though. (Unless he has two necks? )

He is elven

The guy is elven, a 1st level wizard. I suggested seeking out artificial/magical hands, I'll see how he responds on the next session.

BTW, his primary-hand was cut off, so this leaves him only his off-hand. I AM evil, did I mention that? At least I am Lawful Evil. I have had some DMs with no care for the rules ;-)

YOU CUT HIS HAND OFF AT 1st LEVEL!?!?! I killed my first player just last night (shooting a Red Wizard 2 levels higher than you can have, ummm, regrettable consequences) and he whined like a backstreet boy getting his nuts smashed with a polo mallet (they have nuts, right?) and i feel GUILTY!
