what has your occupation brought to your game?

Science Instructor: I use my "class prep" skills all the time (as EN noted). I also am pretty good at directing groups. Finally: I've got the cosmography of my home-brew "right".

Advertising. Nothing much to add to my game except some peripheral benefits:

1) T-1 Connection for quickly downloading PDFs and for building my campaign website
2) CD-Burner for making back-up copies of the PDFs
3) About 2 years ago I actually worked on advertising for Wizards of the Coast, and that's the main reason I'm gaming with 3E today - one of my employees knew nothing about gaming and asked me to start up a campaign so she could learn about D&D. Two years later, we don't work on WotC any more, but we're still going strong with the campaign.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

founded to curb the spread of malaria in the US. but, we do more than infectious diseases. we are responsible for injury prevention. homeland security. education. toxic drug registry. chronic illnesses. quarantine. import and export. occupational safety. etc...

so yes, it has helped in many ways. an active mind and body are always good in game.

I'm a graphic designer for textbooks; my players have called my handouts "disturbingly well-produced" and "indicitive of far too much energy spent thinking about typography." :D I also use a "teacher's book" method for any rumor/map handouts: I produce the one for the player, then I print the same one out with an overlay of magenta notes about the real situation or hidden locations or what have you, for myself.

As far as in-game changes, there is an Art domain, as well as a strongly color-based scheme to magic schools.

Architectural Engineer: Pretty good knowledge of where windows, stairs and such are going to be and how to find them whether in dungeons or elsewhere. It also sorta carries over to the PCs I play by having them 'know' how a building is supported and layed out. Mostly though it deals more with game geometry with buildings around, such as hiding under the gables of a roof, or knowing which angle may be the best for a crossfire ambush.

Tour Guide Volunteer: This helped a lot with public speaking and how to communicate effectively (and possibly loudly) to players as a DM. It's kept me from ever stalling in an adventure yet, as well as add more drama to combat and effects. I think it will help with the outgoing bard I am about to play soon too.

Drummer: I like to surprise my players once in a while with a confrontation of an insideous villan that acts sinister by flipping and twirling pencils, rulers, maps, whatever. I got some feed back that they loved it as a prop addition to the hatred they had for him. Can't do it all the time, though, gotta lay off til they least expect it....

While I'm not a librarian, I do work in a huge library so I have access to a ton of resources. My actual job has me supervising a large amount of college students and keeping everything sane when large numbers are around is a plus when running a game.

Since I took this job I have also found many more libraries popping up in my homebrews and there significance is usually not small... :D

Web developer: Mostly I've just thrown up quick web pages with background info and stuff for whatever game we're playing. Once I ran a Cthulhu game that heavily relied on in-between-game playing. As part of it, I emailed the players with various creepy links, as well as maintained a bogus news website that was always full of bizarre stories for them to follow up on.

Artist: Mostly used to do a quick sketch of a monster or character. Occasionally used to make stupid cartoons of bad choices my character (or other characters) have made.

Student architecture: Drawings of maps, buildings etc. on large scales, which is especially great in a group that uses the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook a lot.
Knowledge of houses and living environments in general, which helps if I want to build a (semi-)realistic dungeon.

Bah. I'm just an artist. All I get to do is draw things like magic items and bizarre architecture for my players and make up weird and freaky monsters...
