what has your occupation brought to your game?

Freshman composition teacher - Giving players freedom and room for creativity, while keeping the game going. Also helps with speaking consistently for a long time if necessary, and knowing when to shut up. Lots of practice at having to think on my feet and react instantaneously to new and unusual perspectives.

English literature Ph.D. student - Multi-layered plots, complicated characters, and tons of material to insert into my campaigns (I love using fictional/historical characters and themes, even if most of my players don't catch the allusion).

Database Reporting/Tech Support/Minor bits of Technical Writing and Training: Nothing... absolutely nothing... :/

Investigator-US Treasury Dept- Get to meet a lot of truly evil people that I sometimes use as villains. (I change the names of course!) Also gives a lot of insight how to talk to people and gather information. I always laugh watching "expert" players try to solicit information from NPC's or even a GM. I find it absolutely hysterical because they just seem to beat around the bush indefinitely rather than ask direct questions.

i was in logistics in the military, so i have an acute understanding about how much weight and space food takes up. you'd be surprised how much stuff it takes to feed even a small group of people for a reasonable journey.

ever since then, i've always had my characters purchase a pack horse. :)

occupational safety and industrial hygiene. I really can't say that this has helped in any way except that I know how unsafe a career as a adventurer actually is, now put on your hard hats, steel toed boots and safety goggles and get back in the dungeon.

I've done improv theater for about four years now, which helps with NPC voices, characterization, and generally being able to make stuff up and react off the cuff to whatever stupid thing the characters do and make it look like I'd planned for it all along.

Also, I work for a cable company. This means that I pause the game every ten minutes or so and try to sell something to my players.

Occupation
Network Admin, I bring a total disregard for anything living.

Education
Artist, sometimes someone will get a nice picture of their character, usually a 3D model rendering as I dont use pencils or paint anymore.

at the German equivalent of an US law school:

A shadowrun campaign in which every action had to be announced using the exact § of the Criminal Code etc. .
It was fun and worked.

with non-lawyer groups today:

Nobody uses legal terms. I play to forget my occupation.

As a Sports Photographer uh not much here.
As a tech support/owner of an ISP also not much.

Being raised to be organized to the point of being anal - now that has helped. Thanks mom
