What is it about Drizzt that you just can't stand?

...Karl Edward Wagner's Kane kicks Drizzt's butt and would make him his bitch! But then so many other great fantasy characters do the same!

I've said it before, but it bears repeating Darkness Weaves by Karl Edward Wagner is a forgotten masterpiece of the Sword and Sorcery genre.

And yes, Kane would annihilate Drizzt...and probably laugh himself silly about. As he laughed, witnesses would die from fear:)

I would have to say Elric by Morcock owns them all. Who can beat a drow wielding a soul sucking great sword commanding a legion of dragons to do his bidding? Drizzt would die in one split second as Stormbringer sucks the life from his very body...elric 0\/\/ns j00!

I'd say C.J. Cherryh's Morgaine would rule them all. Elric, etc. all seem to have melee weapons, Morgaine fights smart, and she has a sword that forms a freaking Sphere of Annhilation when it's drawn! Even Kane's gotta respect THAT! Granted, she'd also "cheat" a little bit, since she has rogue levels and what appears to be a hand laser. It's all about encounter distance, who sees who when, and who wins initiative, I guess!

And who does the writing.

What's not to like about Drizzt? He's the baddest private dick on Faerun - plus, he's got that cool Isaac Hayes theme song. He's the cat who won't cop out when there's danger all about.

I do think the recent film starring Sam Jackson as Drizzt was a bit weak, but Jackson was super cool. And the old Richard Roundtree Drizzt movies were great!

How many drizzt haters would read a book where Drizzt settles down in Shadowdale, sires a child with an elf woman, and then teams up with Elminster to stop a demon from destroying Shadowdale, fails horribly, and Elminster and Drizzt are killed irrevocably?

I know I would.

spare me that ordeal, even knowing the outcome, i could not wade through another drizzt or elminster book. the endless pages describing the thoughts of drizzt as he died would be good only to wipe my backside. i used to like the salvatore books. the one that focused on entreri and the drow in calimport more then drizzt was ok, but the last one just made me want to scream. i am so sick of the overdramatic endings. though i must admit that i have been guilty somewhat guilty of drizzt cloning (outcast tortured soul character, not drow ranger with two scimtars)

also the tendency of salvatore's drow to wield two weapons is because in 1e, drow could do so with no penalties, and that is the info salvatore was given about the drow. 2e comes out and the ability no longer exists, what was he supposed to do, make like they couldn't do it anymore? i think not, at least he had that much integrity. enough to cause fanboy copycats everywhere to play only his dual wielding style of drow. :P
