What is Ptolus anyway?

Nightfall

Sage of the Scarred Lands
Civil? Here?! ;)

Anyway Whiz, I was curious, I was hoping to get clarification: Ratmen in Ptolus, are they like were-rats or Slitheren/Ratmen in Creature Collection?

It sounds like a real interesting setting, and really nice book with a lot of extras and whatnot.. but the only way I'm buying a DnD book that costs more than $50 or so, is if it's stuffed with lottery tickets.

Well, my copy should be arriving any time now, and I can't wait.

I've never understood why people get so caught up about arguing the price of D&D books. I've seen it so many times on many different boards, and it always ends the same: a lot of harsh words are thrown around and nobody's mind get changed.

If you consider D&D books reference material (which they are), and take a quick gander online at reference books on other subjects, you will see that for the most part RPG books are woefully under-priced for what they are. Which is very good for us. Find another 700 page reference book (on any subject) with sturdy binding and see what it costs.

But really, RPG are a cheap hobby compared to many others out there.

whats the difference between the $119 dollar one and the $10 dollar one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/09...4620-6968769?_encoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155 nevermind paperback book heh
Well, thanks for the info and debate. Sounds like I sparked a few nerves with the question.

So, $119 for the full hard cover book and $10 for the soft cover. Is the soft cover the exact same book? Because I would buy it for $10. In fact, I would buy three of four for whe they fall apart.

I think Monte does a lot of good in the RPG world and he has a lot of great ideas and products, however, I just have a problem swollowing $119. Now, if I bought one for $10 and liked it enough, I might buy the full version.

When is this thing being released, at GenCon?

The 10$ book listed on Amazon there is the Ptolus comic book. (Which won't be out for a good while since we only have #1 of the series so far)

This is certainly not the same as the Ptolus big book for 120$.

That $10 one looks like the comic book, not the book itself.

The full $119 version will be available as seperate PDFs, but not as a paperback.

The book is being released at GenCon. Street date is August 10.

You can download the Ptolus Player's Guide for free:
http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=11959

You can also buy PDFs of the first two chapters of the big book. See if you like them and then make a decision.

Any idea of a pdf cost? I would hate to order something for $120 and not like it once it came. Viewing a pdf, while not preferable, at least lets you go through the whole thing and test it out a bit.

I think it is pronounced TOE-LUSS

I have also heard some people say TAW-LUSS

I fear some player may turn it into TOE-LESS, so I'll probably go with TAW-LUSS just to be safe...
